I got this app called Simply Being, to help me meditate as a way to relax, destress etc. the problem I have is as soon as I close my eyes I get all these random thoughts and pictures in my head I don't know how to shut it off. You're suppose to just let thoughts come and go but I don't find it relaxing.

Should I imagine I'm on a beach? I tried that and then I started thinking about a topless beach, then saw some nice tits on my beach which led to another random thought about sex so then I started thinking about banging the chick I just saw on my beach. Next thing i know we really go at it and I'm getting aroused and my heart is beating faster and I'm no longer relaxed - this meditation thing is hard.

Any suggestions?

Problems with anxiety most of my adult life and chronic pain in recent years has led me to give it a try, so I've just started. I'm far from an expert.

When your mind wanders you're supposed to bring yourself back to concentrating on your breathing or a mantra. With practice you get better.

Guided meditation may be beneficial for beginners. I have this on my ipod:

In The Emotional Life Of Your Brain
, Richard Davidson wrote how the mention of meditation was taboo during his studies at Harvard in the 70's. He went on to conduct studies with Buddist Monks that had > 10,000 hours of meditation and through fMRI documented the neuroplastic changes that resulted while they were exposed to various stressors. He continues to do so and has working relationship and a friendship with the Dali Lami.

Today, many world renowned neuroscientist advocate and practice "mindfulness".

I'm looking forward to learning more about meditation and its connection with neuroplasticity, particularly as it pertains to anxiety and pain management.

I am similar to pick in that I use it for anxiety and emotional regulation. I've only been doing it a few months and I have to use guided meditation or my mind is everywhere. I like the hypnosis type ones. I can be in the zone in a few mins now and stay there for the duration. I can recommend some apps too.. I've tried a few different ones.

I picture myself running. When I run I don't picture anything and my mind goes to zero...

Talk to me when you learn how to just breath right. Been doing this for awhile now, it's what brought me back from my health problems.

Oh, that bad back and clomid-damaged heart are the least of your problems.

You can't meditate away that extra chromosome.

clomid damaged heart? Not sure if you're projecting here but you were the one that doesn't know how to use Clomid, and I kind of have visual definitve proof now don't I plumpy? :qt: hehe I sure do. lmfao

Yoga has good meditation.

The silva method is pretty cool too, puts your brain into alpha wave mode. I dropped out on it the first time I used it, trippy...

Crystal Meditation

Crystals can be used as part of a meditative practice to help target specific emotions and reach particular spiritual goals. Calming blue stones, for instance, can help clear the mind and body, while purple or clear stones aid in achieving elevated states of consciousness (calcite, for instance, symbolizes enlightenment). If you have a particular goal for your practice, try getting there by holding or wearing crystals with the healing properties that can guide you.
