anyone here go to business school?

I'm considering applying to either Harvard or Stanford and I'm just curious if anyone here went to either for the MBA program?
I'm interested in Harvard b/c it is near where I am already and of course very good, and I am interested in Stanford moreso b/c it is harder to get into and has more of a tech side that I'd be interested in and perhaps more suited to.

The last case would be Penn but I'm not really interested in that one.

Right now I'm trying to decide to weather out the tech industry, to apply to business school, or law school (patent law in the long run - computer/technical side - I have connections with one of if not the best patent law firms in the country).

I'm staying late tonight at work and will be checking the board between compling and server restarts - so feel free to give any perspective on this.

I'm kind of addicted to the "making money" aspect of the tech industry right now, but it is also slowing down... which is always a good time to go to school (but all the schools are getting flooded with applications).

I'm going to look into taking the GMAT once I get back from my vacation (starts in 2 days). I've heard it is easy and from the practice onces I've glanced at, doesn't look too bad, but I need to take one to really know.

I'm tempted to just take the LSAT, GMAT, and GRE and see what I do best on and then decide from there (the gre for just a regular program - I have connections at the MIT media lab that I might try to leverage - but again, I kind of like making money and the only nice thing about student life is the time...)

Have you looked at Wharton, in Philly.

Of the two Stanford has the better rep now.

okay, maybe I'm showing how dumb I can be - but I thought Wharton was the Penn one that I mentioned?

I'm not really sure - no offense to those in Pennsylvania - like you wodin - but I don't really want to live there. CA or MA, I'm fine with. that is another reason I'm looking at those schools (Harvard I wouldn't have to move at all, could stay in my current place even).

The main factors I have to worry about are 1) paying for it (grrr) and 2) my grades from college. I tend to be VERY autodidactic, so I would tend to ignore classes I didn't like and then go learn on my own what did interest me. so my grades are soely based on if I liked the prof or not - did like them, A or B, didn't - well... not A or B.

if I could get an interview, then I could convince them I'm pretty sure, I'm fairly good at getting people to see things my way if I want to put the energy into it.
but on paper I look retarded. (hee hee, I look pretty retarded in person too - damn fetal alcohol syndrome like brittney spears... hee hee - sorry, that is awful)

I graduated from Humboldt in 93 with my MBA.

I suggest you take a look at CNN's web page. Just a few days ago, they had an interesting article about the values of getting an MBA these days.

I got one of my friends to apply for a job where I am now - he went to HBS and has a comp sci degree and background as well.
they wanted to make him VP of a certain dept and his salary would have been close to $400K.
he decided to turn it down and stay in management consulting at one of the best firms and make $500K+.

rough life.

I'll look at cnn now.

Well....you know I'm a hater but if you;re going to do it any of those three would be all right.

Friend of mine was a Wharton undergrad and he says their tech side is outstanding. The reports are what they are about who is #1, 2 or 3......there is no such thing as an unsuccessful Wharton MBA.

He owns his own business and makes 8 figures a year.

Food for thought.
