A friend of mine was posted in Okinawa on the military base for some time. He told me when he first arrived there an old Japanese man bounced a soft drink can off his head and gave him the peace sign. He found out later that the two fingers represented one for Hiroshima, one for Nagasaki. Nice welcome!

LOL. I never had anything thrown at me.. the people were extremely nice and helpful. Even the teenagers were cool to us.

There were always problems with protesters (this was the late 80's) but it was just a few goofball university kids..

I was at Camp Hansen.. had a nice little gym too.

LOL yes they did. They wound up putting a food court there. Has Anthony's Pizza, Robin Hood, Popeye's, and Taco Bell. All of which sucked in retrospect.

We all supplemented with nightly run for fried noodles covered in chicken and cheese.
