Anyone here do sprints?

i dont run them formally, just sometimes in the AM to switch it up instead of doing steady cardio...

pick a time interval your willing to sprint for, or a distance, on the street or track or whever you run, lets say its half laps...

sprint half a lap, walk a lap and a half, sprint half a lap, walk a lap and a half, all nonstop. or instead of walk when you get better jog instead of walk.

or to gradually make it harder sprint half a lap, walk half a lap, sprint half a lap, etc.

thats what i do, i dunno how formal you wanted to get with it, thats my suggestion

What would be a good starter routine and how many x per week. Since I don't get along with squats anymore thought id try them.

Try this bro.

Sprint 100m for time x 10. Rest as long as you need to between sets so you can go all out every time. You'll also need somebody to time you on each one. If you don’t have a track just go anywhere and measure off 328 feet with a measuring tape.

I guarantee this is the best hamstring workout you'll ever do. Let me know how it goes.

I haven't ran in years. I got app. a 100 meter spot at front in the road, hardly any cars. Uphill. I run it, walk back, run it, walkback. I sprinted 4x and I was fried. Doing 2x week, work up to more times as I can. God it sucks, but I seem to enjoy all out short efforts vs. hours on the treadmill.

I usually do my sprints on a basketball court. Either sprinting back and forth or doing "suicides" (baseline to free throw line back to baseline then to half-court then the opposite free throw line back to the baseline and then to the other baseline and back)

One routine I plan to start doing is called "rodeos". You can use a basketball court or football/soccer field, whatever you have access to, and you sprint the lengths and jog the widths.

Kelly Baggett has some interesting articles on speed and vertical improvement. Just do a google search.

if you are running flat out then treat sprints like you would a weight trauining session, it is that intense, so don't be doing em on rest days...

I love the explosive power you get from hill sprints.

If you really want to get crazy you can sprint with a rope tied around your waist while dragging a tire. When you run without the tire you will feel like you're flying!

A Jujutsu master that comes to gym trains this way: Jumps over 2 bench in 2 leaps(it's far), jumps over about every other piece of equipment(it's fucking hillarious, then has this huge black dude grab his belt while he runs around the track. Then to finish off he shows his pussiness by getting owned with 135 on the incline for only a few reps. The sad thing: he'd probably kick your fucking ass from what i've heard.

My progress.........good. I feel much better. Not ready for tire but im gonna try that. Works on pitbulls good I know that!

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but why would you comment on this guys "pussiness" about weight training when strength obviously isn't the goal he strives for from his training?

agreed to an extent, but a submission fighter unable to press 135??? unless hes in a tiny ass weight class and weighs less than that, thats pretty pussy

Actually.....one of yhe guys in my gym sets up a flat bench in the squat rack and squats 3-5 sets at about 80% of his 1rm for 8-12 reps.........he goes completely ass to bench on the squat and when he racks the weight after his last rep speed hops the bench like a speed skater.........better than sprints..........i tried it once and almost puked my guts out

I like to do 40 yard sprints with a 45 lb plate tied behind me to a weight belt those are fun.... that's about all the running I'll do these days!! and it's not really fast enough to be hard on the knees!! and they really are pretty fun!!

Not to be counter culture here, but I don't see how you can do sprints while on a volume training program like a 5x5. I would think it would comprimise your lifts, no? It did in my case. From what I read even doing assistance work like arms is detrimental because those muscles may be weakened and you would not be able to make your lifts. Wouldn't the sprints be in the same category?
