Anyone have a Bengal Cat?

jerkbox said:
they are very cool, i know someone who has one. i've spent a lot of time with it....lol

Was it a naughty kitty deserving much punishment? Or a lovely kitty yearning for a loving stroke and attention?

But seriously.....those cats look cool and I want to train one to whip my roommates stupid ass lab. This lab is two year old and only weighs about 45lbs. The dog has no obedience.....I think it would be sweet to train a twenty lbs Bengal cat to whip its ass at my beckon call!

I had one.. they r wicked pets. they have personalities of their own. Mind you they still have a bit of a wild side. Myn climbed walls.. Attacked me sometime sin my sleep...OYa and boy can they meow.. not a regular meow either.. kind of loud and annoying

Yeah, that is what I've read! Heard they sound sort of like a tiger! And about the attacking you in your sleep.....did it have claws? Did it bite you?

Did you have any dander problems? Or problems house breaking it?

I just think it would be a wicked cool pet! Would definately be different. Oh, and how much did it cost? I've seen them in the $750 range.....kinda steep for a little kitty ;)

I have a bengal. She only weighs about 10-12lbs though... I picked a runt. She is a great cat!!! Acts a bit more like a dog though. Definitely has a a personality all her own. The meowing is very frequent and it is very distinct and loud. They need a lot of attention, they are definitely not a cat that goes off on their own and hides, etc. She follows me around, wants me to pay attention to her all the time and play. If I talk on the phone she sits right in front of me and meows and then head-butts the phone... generally I find this somewhat cute, but sometimes it gets very annoying ;). She likes people and will hang out in a crowd, although at first she'll run and hide just for the attention of someone coming after her. She is very active... jumps really high, is very strong, climbs on everything, likes water, and eats any kind of food you may have on your plate. She does attack sometimes (never while i'm sleeping), but that is only because a bf taught her how to fight. Overall, she is very cuddley and cute. They are certainly trainable... I taught her that "night night time" means she should go to her spot on my bed and go to sleep. In the winter she completely hides herself in a blanket that is on my bed and sleeps there all night. Hehe.. she's the best. Oh, and no trouble housebreaking at all. She learned where the litter box was right away and has never gone anywhere else. Well, except the time I left for a couple days and mistakenly closed the door to the bathroom that her litter box was in. Even then she was smart enough to go in the tub in the other bathroom.

Son of a bitch bit me, too.

Make sure you can own one in your state before oyu buy it. Here in Georgia they have to be called spotted tabbies. Bengal cats are illegal. Most are bought and brought up through Florida. Because they are considered a wild animal because of the breed. A bunch of horse shit if you ask me but that's the way it is.

Best Bengals are ones that are 4 generations. They are supposed to be the tamest.
I was going to get one, but settled on a domestic lookalike. A Brown tabby with gold eyes, and a tiger pattern with leopard spots on stomach. She's smarter than a dog, affectionate, never leaves my side, and doesnt hide at all! LOL

Thanks Everybody, I really appreciate the information! So...anyone have any preferences on where I could purchase such an amazing house predator? Also, what price range should I expect?

PM me. I'll send you a link to a Florida breeder. They are not cheap. Expect to pay $700.00 to $1000.00 for a top cat.

I paid $750 for mine. She is an F4, not show quality and a bit of a runt. I agree with maxpain, expect $700-1000. Do a google search for bengal cat breeders. You should find a lot. I'm in the northeast, so I don't think my breeder would be very helpful to you. Also, I found that some bengal breeders are very picky about the environment they place their cats in. One lady wouldn't sell me one b/c I didn't have another cat and I work all day.

I kind of have a bengal. It's actually half bengal because the champion father cheated on his bitch with the barn cat. They make great pets. Definitely have a lot of personality, and you might want to de-claw them as they'll climb just about everywhere.

Bengal cats are expensive. I swa a sight in Florida that sells large domestic cats. about 30 or so pounds. They start at $5000. Bad azz catz

Yes, definitely declaw. I just had front declaw on mine and she still scratches things up with her back claws when she jumps on high furniture. I still wouldn't have had the back declawed though... in case she ever got out and had to defend herself or climb a tree.

I am iffy with the declaw thing now. i had my Russian Blue declawed and now wish I had not. He is around another cat and that cat has claws. Oh well. Hind sight is 20/20.

My cat was around a cat that had claws too... she held her own with her back one's. LOL.

Also, I got her laser declaw b/c it is supposed to be a lot less painful.

I like russian blue's... what is your cat like personality wise, etc.
