Anyone ever used those geneology websites?

Like Ancestry.com and shit? I'm jealous of everyone who knows so much about their ancestors. I know basic countries, but thats about it. Are they worth it?

I tried building a tree on Ancestry.com, but couldn't find anything past the great-grandparent level, except on my dad's mom's side, which had entries going back to the 1600s. And I didn't want to sign up for the for-pay services they offer.
