Anyone ever redone wood floors?

btw, i'm putting UP a wood ceiling. its a PITA, but looks OH so good.

We put up some cedar ceilings Stilleto. Tongue and groove and finished the edges by just nailing up some thick rope to give a nautical look. I like them, but my guy LOVES them that way. They do look pretty and rustic. =-)

With regard to refinishing hardwood floors, it is LOTS of work sanding and then getting all that damn dust out in order to refinish is somewhat of a nightmare, but you will get so much more $$$ for those beautiful hardwoods than for carpet! It's time well spent.

Project has it all right, and it would be hard to add to that. I think the number one key is starting with a rougher grade paper and going all the way down to really fine paper.

Good luck!

!

ya, this is tongue and groove too, but no rope. I'm not anywhere near the shore, so the nautical look would be silly (in the mountains). :)

Don't lie you don't have mountains out there except what's in you shirt.

I'd still stick a shop vac in there with a long exhaust vent(hose) to the outside. I have a 25 ft. 4 inch vent permanently attatched to my shop vac. Whenever I use it I always stick the vent out a window.

post pics.

The hard part is getting the sanding all even. As GL mentioned rent the machine from home depot and maybe take one of their DIY classes. The rest is easy just time consuming.

Actually, for me, the hard part was getting the stain even when I was re-doing the floor. . .what a fuggin nightmare. Plus, my knees were really starting to act up at that point (a couple of years ago), so the job was complete agony. In my line of work, I bill people as much as $160/hour. . .ain't NO WAY IN HELL I'll EVER refinish another floor again as long as I live.

Oh. . .but you have fun, though!!

ouuuuuuu....... you will be dusting for weeks.... LOL

AHAAA! Also, tape some plastic covers over the entryways of the room and you;ll be fine. I didn't get too much dust in my house when I did it. I had it done professionally. New installation.
