I decided last night to take this week off from the gym as I have numerous injuries that just seem to be getting worse lately as my lifts go up. All I will do is just play hockey and get some therapy done on my joint and tendon issues.

I know its the right thing to do as I have been lifting heavy for months now and the last time I took time off was in August. My body needs a break but already its driving me nuts and I wanna lift.

This happen to anyone else when they take a break?

P.S. Can you shrink in a day LOL? Yes I know I have issues ;)

I said I am taking a week off, its not the same as having a week long hangover and not beign able to workout ;)

You need to take some time off from time to time. Routines get stagnant and some time away from the gym will refresh the mind too.

I don't get hangovers that stuff is for old people! :qt:

Oh my I took one extra day off yesterday to give my shoulders a break.. I swaer to god I felt like a fucking lard ass whale today...

and I know 1 day isnt enough.. but it just kills me to be out of the gym that long..

Big DAwg i feel you on this. Lifting is something you ENJOY doing and to not do it for a week can be tough. I find it hard to NOT lift on days Im at the gym and not scheduled to lift. Sometimes i lift anyways just for the hell of it.

yea, I rarely take more than a couple of days off. Last time I took an extended break was last July due to gym issues. Drove me nuts.

I took a week of 2 weeks ago... it made me miserable. I know that my tendons and muscles needed the rest, but it really made me feel like shit. I was very lethargic and got a lot of headaches. Lifting is my my stress/tension reducer and I rarely get headaches anymore, but during that week off I did almost every day.

Just go with lighter weight and more reps.Thats what i did for my shoulder and i didn't lose any size.

You of all people know about me. And yes, it was really really hard for me to accept that I will never be the way I once was...

It is not the same for you. Your body only needs a little break. You will see, when you give your body proper rest, you will come back bigger, stronger and hungrier.

Also, all kidding aside, you have to accept that you are not 24 years old anymore. It is a tremendous mind-fluck realizing that certain moments in time have past and will never again be re-captured. Honestly, it is so much sweeter enjoying the fact that you once were a physical specimen that 99% of the rest of the population couldn't aspire to even if they could.... and saying, "I may not be as big and intense as I was in the day... but this old sumabitch could still could you a run for your money."

And whether we admit it publicly or not, the truth is that when we have "had it all physically" we are afraid that to a certain degree we may be seen as less by others.... simply because WE feel ourselves like we are less. Will we now have "to settle"? There are people in the world that while they care about their external beauty to some degree cherish what lies beneath so much more.

Think about that kind sir.

The problem is that it isn't just my shoulder, it is shoulder, both elbows, cracked disc in back and now a strained oblique.

Guys on my hockey team laugh and say if being healthy and in shape means being in as much pain as you are I wanna stay fat LOL.

see for me it is different, I am in the best shape of my life now at 35 and won't settle for anything less then keeping this up and looking even better. I have to live this way and will until my body gives out on me as I enjoy it far to much to give it up.

I dunno... sounds to me like you are singing to the choir.

Trying to "get there" is way more difficult than it is actually "staying there" (unless you get to be me LOL then you get to struggle not to look like Kate Moss - but look at the upshot... I get to eat all the Krispy Kremes I want! SO THERE ;) )

Being in the best shape of your life shouldn't mean that you are wearing it out long before you die LOL.... Being in the best shape of your life means that YOU FEEL GOOD AND LOOK GOOD... there is a happy medium you know. :qt:

Or maybe you can look at it like this....

On one side of the scale you have beating the shit out of your body just to see how long you can - the result is that you also look pretty damned good. But break yourself down so that by the time you are 40 something you will barely be able to train anymore let alone beat the shit out of your body. (No exaggeration darlin')

Guess how good you will look and feel then?

On the other side of the scale, you train hard, are as active as you want to be, keep a reality check realizing that you are no "pro" and will not earn tons of dough so no use becoming a decrepit old man on the inside long before your outside says you are... and still look pretty damned awesome. Guess what? You can do this till the day you die.

Which would you choose if you had your druthers? :verygood:

:qt:

And I may not be what I once was, but I got 55# dumbbells up for 5 unassisted reps last night.... SO THERE! I can't do this every workout because I felt the strain on my tendons. But it was nice that I had a few good days back to back, could eat well and I got those fuckers up.

I could shift gears, clean up my diet, do a little cardio and be smaller but very lean.... and give up those Krispy Kremes?

HELL NO. :)

I take a week off about every 12 weeks. If I start to feel drained and lagging, I take a week off also, but that's a fairly rare occurance.

I took last week off and it didn't bother me a bit. I haven't had a protein drink since then either.

Yes, and I also don't whine about Krispy Kremes and Cosmos. :) And, I've also never done a cycle. Recovery gets trickier as one ages, as you're finding out gramps.

my issue is this...i was just sick 2 weeks ago which messed up my dieting that i started 2 weeks before that. i took the week off t recover. Now today i went for a root canal and theres no way imlifting today. I just found out they want me back in in 2 days cause there may be another canal they need to work on. so there goes probably another full week down the shitter. I need to grit my teeth when i lift and there's no way i can do it now. plus obviously, just higher blood pressure or strain will set that baby off. :(:(:(:(
