Me and a buddy of mine were talking about how because of the overuse of AAS especially stuff like GH and insulin how bodybuilding today flat out sucks. Don't get me wrong, guys like levrone, ray, chris cormier are symetrically built and not super-freakish but nasser, coleman, yates, are just too damn big and even they are unproportionate or big bellied (GH). We were talked how we wished that is was like the 70's and early 80's type again arnold, zane, mentzer, franco, big lou. These are the guys who inspired me to bodybuilding and I'm only 25. Is it just me and my buddiesor do you guys feel this way too, I mean who would you rather be built like the athletic 70's build or genetic science experiment 2003?

So true, I look up to the older bodybuilders too, the guys from the 70's and 80's looked much better than the freaks of today

This is a tired old topic, but as always, yes the golden age is well past. Or maybe not, remember that Humans have a tendency to look toward the past and always see it as somehow more pure and just plain better then the present, when in reality the past was always riddled with just as many problems. This thing in BB today is just the evolution of the sport and it will improve in the future with new generations of Bodybuilders.

As long as Joe Weider and his cronies are in charge of the sport at a professional level, it will continue.

Instead of setting the example for the sport to follow, the Weider's keep guiding the sport down the path to ridiculousness.

Pro bodybuilding and the Weider's are a disgrace.

i got into BBing to look more sexy. theres nothing sexy about markus ruhl. awe inspiring? yes. sexy? no way.

Sorry...but Weider and the big companies are not to blame...neither are the judges.....the blames lies with us the fans b/c we pay money to see freaks......if we insisted on EVERY show being tested....normalcy would slowly be reinstated...

VG, not disagreeing with you, but what exactly do you blame the Wieiders for specifically?

For encouraging the athletes to take as many drugs as possible, then they reward them with ludicrous contracts.

The most laughable aspect of the whole thing has been their efforts to try and get bodybuilding included as an Olympic sport.

Joe Weider knows that without the freak show that is pro bodybuilding, there is no sport. Without pro bodybuilding, he doesn't sell supplements, video's, equipment, TV rights, etc. The empire would crumble.

It's in their best interest to keep bodybuilding as freaky as possible.......make it more entertainment than sport......alot like the WWF.

He's playing the tune and everyone is dancing to it.

Actually i think you are wrong. The current state of BB is detrimental to Weider as well. Todays BB are not accepted by the mainstream and hence he can't tap that huge market. So smaller more symmetrical Bodybuilders will make his business grow.

To the contrary GLW, it's all about publicity. The freaks is what gives this sport publicity.

Who watches NPC and natural bodybuilding contests.......no one. Publicity means money, and you can't get better advertising than publicity.

So true. He is freaky. Just a little tiny head on a really big body.

MOST PEOPLE INVOLVED IN BODYBUILDING TODAY JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THEY ARE SO RETARDED ONCE IT COMES TO GOOD FORM AND NUTRITION.:mix:

about the freak show tangent, theres the rub. who today of the zane types has the stuff to carry the mr o? by placings, it would be dexter jackson, as i think he got 4th at the last O. genetics would truly be the breaker. its actually setting the bar higher IMO.

No, that wont work. It is the physique standards that must be changed.

Franco is my bodybuilding idol, in my mine has has the ultimate body. So ofcourse i would like to look as good as him!

anyways bodybuilding is just like everything else in life ,it changes and gos from one trend to another, progression is good for the sport. look back at the 50's..they werent as "cut" so to speak as the BB's in the 70's, but the champions of the 90's had far more mass that that of those in the 70's.
