Anyone else fascinated with prison life?

Don't get me wrong I don't ever want to go to prison, but I find it fascinating.

I bet all of our stereo typical views of prison life is waaay off.

I did a construction project at a prison and knowing that at the end of the day I was coming out when most weren't ever seeing the other side of the gate again was a strange feeling.

Wouldn't find prison life interesting per se; however, I often times imagine scenarios and escaping from a prison is one of them.

Im really interested aswell, more so with the corrections officer part of it,as I plan on applying to corrections ontario in april

How fucking ironic bor i'm with you 100%. that post could have been mine, i'm a carpenter and my company does work in state pens, though I've yet to work at one.

fascinating indeed, i read a lot of books regarding prison life. Read a good book called Leavenworth, check it

There is a new book that is in progress by the author of Fast Food Nation and Reefer madness.. it looks at prison life. Should be good.

My father works at San Quentin in California.

One drunking night in college after fighting. It wasn't no big deal though.

I don't believe taking the tour gives you the true experience of prison life.

i spent a few days in county for a dui a few years ago. i was psyched to go for the experience, i brought a good prison book to read lol

I know someone who was in federal minimum security for 5 years and believe me it is not the country club fru fru joke that people on talk shows like to joke and make it out to be, not even close.

nope, the 50 minute yard (rec time) time sux. The food is subpar, the place is cold and you have lost all freedom

He's worked in prisons since I was around 10 or so, never had much interest in seeing the inside, I've heard plenty of stories.

he's always worked in mental health, right now he's in managment in the mental health ward of San Quentin.. doesn't have to interact with inmates much, mostly manages psychiatrists, but there is some involvement with the inmates. When he started out he was a medical tech for them, so he gave shots, took temperature, blood pressure, etc.. lots of interaction, basically a prison nurse.

When I worked at Angola State Pennitetary in Louisiana I ate the prison food there. It was pretty good. The prisoners grow everything there ... it's a prison farm.

I am. I watch a lot of prison related stuff on Discovery channel, etc....absolutely riveted to the tv for some odd reason.

prison life is a total shithole. Especially in california. They do it on purpose. If prison life TOTALLY sucks (and it does) -- would you want to risk it again when you get out of prison? It's made to be a deterrant.

Unfortunately it rarely works.

The worst are county and medium-security. They do it, once again, on purpose so you don't plan on migrating to bigger crimes that'll land you in maximum. Liike the saying goes : "Tomorrow's murderers are sitting in county and medium right now as we speak".

If I had a choice of life in prison in one of those fucked up hardcore prisons or death ... I'd take death.

guys ever heard about those supermax prisons?

completely segregated, 23 hours a day in a solo cell. 1 hour of solo rec time

that would suck

Yep, fuck that!

I'd be tying a noose with my bed sheet.

jail/prison sucks. the food sucks, the lodging sucks and the company definitely sucks!

well, i'm not a true convict, but i've had some brief sabbaticals and they only gave me a paper sheet every time.

That's reason enough never to go to prison. I'd never get any sleep with paper sheets.
