Anyone cross @ El Paso?

Any info on the Mexico side of the El Paso border would be much appreciated. My brother and I are trying to plan a trip. I just moved to MO from Los Angeles. I am familiar with the San Ysidro crossing, but know nothing about El Paso. I don't even know the name of the city on the other side yet.
Is it similar to Tijuana?
