just wondering what really goes on there. any expirience

went about 3 years ago with one of my best friends.
For 3 days we looked around at sites, but mainly..
1.Weed
2.hash
3.shrooms (sold at the local head shops)
4.red light hos,and when I say hos,I mean these girls we found are undoubtably hotter than I will EVER be able to snag,I mean victoria secret hottness.
Weed $12 a gram for the best our globe has to offer.
Fuck and suck from the best Holland has to offer,$50 US,and worth every drop.

virtually impossible to get ice in your drinks there.Oh and customer service as we know it does not apply there, rude fucks.
Beautiful place though, history out the ass.

hmmm No....but I always wanted to go there :)

What do you wanna know? for the average tourist sermon of mockery summed it up pretty well

"Hey it's me - I'm the hamster man
Comin all the way from Amsterdam
And I've come to tell you all a little secret
To peep with the D and keep with when you's deep with"
-Proof, drunkenly rapping on "Just Rhymin With Proof" by Eminem

No europeans like ice in their drinks. we get pissed off when we go to the USA and we get a .5 litre glass with 300 ml of ice and 200 ml of drink. we get pissed.

Customer service does not apply because you are not supposed to tip people in bars. they get paid more salary and less tip.

You got fucked bro. that's expensive for weed here.

Both my parents grew up in Amsterdam and lived there most of their lives. I love Amsterdam. I live about 2.5 hours away from it

well fuck me running,I should have spent the 2.372 days I had left after jet lag to find a better deal on green.

And when I said they lacked customer service,I did'nt mean they were rude.Everyone we came in contact with(except in the redlight)were straight up assholes at every word.Caught me really off guard.Don't get me wrong,I swore I'd return soon when it was warmer at least.

It's warm in Holland right now.

winter spring and fall are cold and rainy.

Man maybe it was something about you that made em rude. Im never rude to tourists. I dont think most people in amsterdam are.

I have heard from residents you should keep your cash in your front pocket. Because they pick pocket tourist. Other than that. I saw a cannabis cup dvd. MAN OH MAN, I need to go to Amsterdam before they cahnge the laws. I have heard the government is considering it? Other than that. Looks like a real cool palce.

the city changes as soon as that sun sets, and not for the better, alot of werid-o's come out. red light district is kinda cool to see for about 5min and then I got grossed out, i like to pull my own pussy. during the day good van gogh(sp) muesum's and quite nice......during the day

amsterdam is awesome except for the rain and horrible overcast.

it's a really safe city...some of the drug dealers on the street trying to sell coke and E get annoying sometimes but most of the time they don't bother you too much.

i been there 3 times and plan on going back. The dutch people are really friendly and you can meet alot of cool people in the city. If you can manage to go to a local club down there, you'll see some of the most gorgeous and laid back girls ever. Alot of european clubs are like that but it's intensified moreso in amsterdam because of the mentality. The fact they speak english makes things alot easier as well

and as mentioned before, some of the girls in the red light district belong on magazine covers, not in red windows.Alot are nasty but some are that gorgeous. Be careful though, alot of those bitches try to scam you...some are extremely nice and sincere but others try to take you for a dumb tourist.

it depends i guess on what you are looking for. if you are looking to bang hookers and do drugs in an exotic location than go to amsterdam. but dont just do that, they city has some cool things to do,and as i rember they had some good food also. Like is sayed before at night it can get a little creepy, it really did not bother me too much but freaked my sister out who lives in manhattan

yup..i went last year...if your looking for drugs, hookers, its great..if your like me and like a good party (club, lounges) you might be dissapointed. I had fun, the weed was dirt cheap and strong as hell...however i would never go back though, could have alot more fun in another part of europe like Italy or Spain. Also i was dissapointed with the women, yea I saw some really hot hookers but the women in the clubs and bars were nothing to brag about.OF course there were some really hot ones here and there..but overall dissapointing...Also prepare to be harassed especially at night by arabic drug dealers.... P.S the mayonaise they put on the french fries is freaking great.

I have got to go before the US forces the dutch to change the laws concerning cannabis.

You just proved SoMockery's contention that the dutch don't understand the concept of customer service like we understand in the States.

Customer Service is more than just waiters and bartenders. Customer Service is how ANYBODY in a service job treats their customer. Every thing from the cashier at Albert Heijn to the beaurocrats at City Hall.

SoMockery is right on when he talks about the lack of customer Service in NL.

In the States there is a saying "The customer is king". In Holland the saying is "You are the customer so you must be wrong."

Tell me, Robert Jan, have you never been treated rudely by shop workers? tram conductors? the voice on the other end of the phone?
Ever try to complain? Ask for the manager? If you do they will side agaionst the customer and defend the employee no matter how awful that employee is.

I was only in Amsterdam for less than 24 hours so I didn't really see much and I can't comment on the customer service. But cheeperscreepers they sure have ZERO concept of it in Paris!

No I have never been disrespected as a costumer actually. and the costumer is king is as common a phrase in holland as anywhere else.

I think the thing with costumer service in Holland is that the Dutch, even for Europeans, are very down to earth and no bullshit.

We don't like to tell people to have a nice day if we don't sincerely care and think about whether they do and we don't like to be told it that way either.

Just like we are far less likely to give insincere compliments and we have a far greater distaste of all sorts of bullshit, advertising for instance. People in the USA don't like commercials too much because they interrupt the show they like. The Dutch don't like commercials at all because not only do they interrupt our show, they also pump needless stupid numbing bullshit into our minds. We are more aware of that stuff.

Just like we don't like people who smile just because they are expected to, like American cheerleaders etc. Ironically they seem cold, distant and unreachable to us.

Our hotel clerks, or most of them, won't give you a big Colgate smile as you come in.
Most likely, they will just ask politely yet coldly what to do for you and do it, functionally.

Does this mean the Dutch are cold cynical bastards? Not at all. Speak some more to people who aren't working for you, people who are out and about having a good time. You'll see most are very laid back, welcoming, friendly, openminded and comfortable.

I prefer it this way. I'm sure that if I grew up in the USA I'd experience things differently.

If I come into a store to check if there is anything I might want to buy and an employee welcomes me with a big smile and says, how may I help you, isn't it a wonderful day, I immediately become very very cautious of him trying to fuck me over.

I get the whole slick car salesman feeling.

Another thing to keep in mind is how difficult it is to try and be spontanious and sincere about being a costumer loving employee normally. Now think how hard it is, in your second language. I think Dutch employees are more outspoken and nice to the Dutch simply because they understand them better and while most speak decent English they can present themselves better in Dutch.

Back To Amsterdam.

I love the city. Both my parents grew up there and I love to visit it. I'm about 2.5 hours away from it where I am now.

The customer service in Holland is 110% better than the customer service in Germany. In Holland everyone, and I mean everyone, is nice to me or at least neutral. In Germany the people are rude assholes. Even the Germans are talking about how rude Germans are.

A really great Holland city is Maastricht. I visit there about once a month to smoke up and get my party on. The girls there are soooooooooooooooooooo sexy. The ratio of sexy girls to ugly girls (under 24 yo) is about 3:1. They must put something in the water. The asses on those girls are unbelievable.

That's my fucking sister you are talking about :D

Maastricht rocks. yes it does. I dont think theres any must-sees there though, just a very nice place to live.

Maastricht is by average 3 degrees celsius warmer than the average of holland and they have slightly less rain too.

but yes our climate is awful. I wont deny. August is usually nice. Its very warm and sunny and dry here right now, in fact I have a fan on in my room. Its been this way all week.

Too bad.....nice weather is pretty important to old farts such as myself.

There are dozens of English speaking countries in the world to my delight.

I have developed heart problems this year and shall seek a low tech, low stress environment. Better to live poor than not live at all.

Once you're in scotland it would be silly not to go to Holland imo... it's like a 30 minute flight for very little money

R-Jan...you ever been to that shit mang?

I hear you about the whole "car salesman" feeling but when one is a genuinely warm, smiling and friendly individual such as myself the best is brought out of everyone. When I lived in Paris I used to feel it a personal challenge to get the French to return my smile. (They are king when it comes to phony niceness, but they are still very cool and proper, not at all informal.) I think most of the time they only did it after they were sure that I was mental LOL... but it didn't matter to me. All that mattered was that I made someone smile. ;)

No I've never been to the Cannabis cup. I'm just an occasional smoker, once every few months or so. I'm hardly an expert or fanatic
