good solid argument from you and theskywalker. unfortunately both are useless. it's curling, man.

Not unless he moved a couple of states.

How about addressing what's in the post, instead of yelling "curling! curling!"?

That is the whole reason behind advertising and site stores. You grossly overestimate the cost of running a board. There are hundreds of boards that run for free. and I know people who personally run high traffic boards. The amount that ads sell for high traffic sites like this, greatly offset the costs, and that doesnt factor in any of the ebook and supplement sales EF does.

Red Shirt,

If you left, I would hate to see you go, but I think you underestimate the cost of the site. Of course you can find a cheap ISP to set you up with a board. But as your site grows both in terms of members and the size of the database, so do the costs - exponentially.

The Boards are run on 5 dedicated servers - not one - and the size of the database is enormous. We also have two people who administer the boards. One manages the servers and the database. The other manages the code. We have folks who market the site. And two people who provide customer service.

There is NO fitness related topic that you will not be able to find in the search archive. After all, this is the largest repository of bodybuilding information that has ever existed. You can go to another site, but you will not find the history of information there. The serious athletes who are also Platinum Members understand the value of this resource.

Try going Platinum for just a month. It costs less than two cups of Starbucks. I promise you that you will be pleased with your decision and will not want to go back.

What do you think constitutes a "high traffic" board?

I don't want to come off as being smarmy, but seriously name one high traffic board that doesn't offer some membership.

Slashdot? Yep, they have memberships.

Compare the uptime/number of posts/number of users of EF with S'ology or any other board and you'll find a serious disparity.

www.honda-tech.com

Bigger than EF.

Also there are plenty of gaming sites, but I don't know the names off the top of my head.

well I'm not going any place, unless I'm not wanted around. I understand you pay a lot to run your site, and my original post was never meant to drum up the responses it has. Accept my apology if I've offended you, because that was not my intent.

Will I pay for a plat membership? Probably not, but that is an economical decision on my part. I would not take advantage of the features enough to merit buying one.
