Heck, by today's standards, those patriots would be considered terrorists.

yep. feds are casting a wide net as to who they label terrorists these days. and 40% of this country doesn't give a rat's ass.

And it won't until it hits them. And then it's too late because they have no rights at that point.

Even in previous threads it was easy to see how people were willing to allow well established penalties for crimes to change radically because of how they personally felt about a certain group. Nothing like having a well established 25 year max sentence become life with no checks and balances in place and the sheeple just going along with it because...

i thought you were a lawyer. if so, you know the wording of the 2d can be construed as providing for a "well regulated militia" rather than an individual right. no matter which side of the argument you fall on the poor wording provides ammunition for a legal argument. the aclu just chose the wrong side on that one, imo.

With every law/article/section/provision you can find two sides, even more. But the ACLU's main goal is to fight for your rights and liberties and the RKBA is one of them.

Jefferson I think it was that said... "Though I don't agree with the words you speak I will, until my dying day, defend your right to say them" I think the ACLU takes on some really BS cases at times, but I think their presence is mandatory

It's actually attributed to Voltaire, but is probably really from one of his followers. And it goes, "I disagree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

But you're right that Jefferson held this philosophy, as did many other founding fathers. Jefferson felt it was necessary to uphold the right to free speech, especially when you found it offensive. It's the basis for the political speech litany and free marketplace of ideas.
