BethPage Park Golf Course is really looking solid. I would hate to be those golfers who wind up in the rough and the fescue grass. I just saw Justin Leonard hit into the trap in 2 and blasted out over the green into the rough and it took him 3 more strokes just to get it onto the green. It is going to be a long day for some of those golfers.

Damn.....what a course!

I've been watching the ESPN webcast from work all day. I haven't checked but I assume ESPN will be doing some kind of wrap up show tonight and I'll definitely try to watch that.

The webcast is cool, but they've set it up differently than I would have guessed. They actually have two announcers (Roger Twibell and Charlie Rymer, who have been great) and cameras at holes #3 and #14 dedicated to the webcast only. I would think they would just broadcast on the web what they're showing the TV audience but there must be some reason they're not doing that.

The pictures I saw do not do this course justice and probably the TV doesn't either. What I can see is simply amazing. I would hate to be in that rough! Waist high = nightmares x 50!!!!!!!

Next time I am in NY.....I think I will play that course just to say I played it.

Just keep this in mind. You have to park your car there at like 11:00pm the night before and sleep in it, in order to get in line for a tee time.

Yeah, they were interviewing a NY Post writer on the webcast. He said there's a time when the next week's tee times can be reserved but you'll never get through and they're all taken in about two minutes. Then he said that in the pre-Open hype there have been reports of people waiting up to 48 hours in their cars to ensure getting on.

It kinda reminds me of my only visit to Monterey about 5 years ago. I decided I'd try to get on Pebble Beach as a single, so I set my alarm for 5 AM and got to the course around 5:45... only to find I was going to be the sixth single on the list. There were five guys waiting before me to pay - at that time - $275 for 18 holes and I got the impression they don't just work in a single anytime there's less than four golfers teeing off, so I would have been looking at a long wait.

Instead, I drove over to Spyglass and got on right away. I think the fee was $150. The first 5 holes were amazing, easily as good as any at Pebble, but then the remaining 13 holes are more mundane. I played right in front of Michael Douglas who had a personal instructor playing with him.

I was in Monterey about 13-14 years ago and Pebble beach was $75.00 for a round. I wish I would have played it at that time but I didn't know I was going to drive over to Monterey. Tough luck, I guess.....but my wife did take a shit in the clubhouse there. I drove over to Spyglass just to view the course. I couldn't believe the deer were running around the course like squirrels. No big deal to most of the golfers there because they didn't seem to mind. Those are beautiful courses in California and next time I will bring my clubs!

I think the outrageous prices they are charging for 1 round could be compared to price gougers. They are probably charging $300 - $375 for a round now....they could probably charge $500 and those golfers wouldn't bat an eye.

Yes, I think someone said in DOT's Open thread that Pebble is now $325 or $350. For most people who play there - and I'm certainly not one of them - the fee is irrelevant and yes I bet they could charge $500 and sell just as many rounds as they do now.

I was willing to drop the $275 as one of those once in a lifetime things. What I didn't realize then was that you should always hire a caddie when you get the opportunity to play courses like Pebble and Spyglass, and you should have plenty of cash for the tip afterwards.

The couple I was playing with at Spyglass hired a caddie to carry both of their bags. He was slightly inebriated but he was no idiot. He just put the bags on a cart and drove the cart around the whole round. He read this huge breaking putt on the back nine for me and since I sank it I gave him a few bucks at the end of the round as well.

hey everyone have you ever been to san antionio(sp?) there is a town called burnie,texas. there is a golf course called tapatio springs .i know the owner and the golf course is so amazing . it was i think rated as one of the best golf courses in texas.

Tiger is eating up the course today. Already 3 under for the day after 3 holes. He looked really good yesterday. Nothing fantastic, but really steady and consistent. If the greens stay soft because of the rain, I think he'll run away with it.

What a golfer!!!!!!!!!! He is something that our generation won't see for awhile. Of course, I though that about Jack Nicklaus too but I believe he will be bigger than anybody who has ever played the game.

He is currently at 5 under but he is on #10. I think 9 or 10 under might win this tournament.

Yeh, I heard that about 7 over. After Tiger came out on fire through the first three holes, I thought maybe he was going to post a good score. But with the rain and all, he is coming back to the field but the field is heading in the same direction. It looks like now that maybe 4 or 5 under might win.
