Anybody Tried S.E.A.L Camp or know anyone?

my little brother (24) has been training heavy close to a year to get ready for SEAL camp..(he's been lifting, athletic all his life)..he does not work...just runs, lifts, and swims (living off some inheritance and college graduation money)..i need to show ya'll some pics....incredibly diesel....i watched him do 40 wide grip chins (all the way down) the other day no problem....he is totally natural....he is having trouble with the 300 (or is it 500) yard swim..missing it by 18 sec right now....he is studying like crazy for the officer's tests as well...he's no genius, but his work ethic is incredible...i have so much respect for him....first i'd like to see if anybody has any comments on his chances...or if anyone has some intimate knowledge of what he is getting himself into (officer vs. enlisted life).. second, i'd like everybody to wish his crazy ass good luck....

If memory serves, Tiny Buck has signed up and will be going through training soon. Might shoot him a PM.

Wish i could help but i don't know how. I don't see why someone with that much dedication & desire to succeed would choose to not use anabolic steroids.

I know matttheskywalker was in the Rangers, he might have some info on special ops. organizations.

oh shit yeah, big buck is out in diego....

about the juice...he won't even take creatine...he is under the impression that they test for it...

what i wouldn't give to put this kid on some eq, winny, and fina....i can honestly say that even with a few cycles under my belt, my lil bro has always looked better than me....he is just freakin ripped, much better genetics...of course while i was smoking hella weed in high school and most of college, he was in europe doing cup soccer and other shenanigans...

anybody know what the AS testing scene is like in the Navy?...

I know two people who tried and one was a Marine the other tried straight out of high school I think. They both talked a lot of shit but didn't make it. I knew they weren't going to make it because they weren't mentally tough. That's 90% of it. You have to be hard as titanium upstairs.

thats exactly it,to suceed you must be mentally tough and wont give up,.and from how u describe your brother he should do fine

This is an area of interest and upset to me...

Right off the SEAL website:

This is a standardized test, so ensure that you do NOT rearrange the exercises.

500 yard swim using breast and/or sidestroke in 12.5 minutes

10 minute rest

Perform a minimum of 42 push-ups in 2 minutes

2 minute rest

Perform a minimum of 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes

2 minute rest

Perform a minimum of 6 pull-ups (there is no time limit)

10 minute rest

Run 1.5 miles wearing boots and long pants in 11.5 minutes

All that shit above is a joke. Plain and simple. I'm 25 now, do no cardio, and can meet all the above criteria.

In high school I swam in state the 500 yard in 5 min 23 seconds... 3rd in the state. Even now I could do 500 yard's on my back.

I can do 42 pushup's without stopping.

50 sit-ups in 2 minutes is a joke.

6 pull ups without a time limit is also laughable.

1.5 miles in 11.5 minutes... a school girl can do that.

These #'s aren't an incredible figure to reach... it's just that the minimum requirement to become a basic squid or marine is incredibly low. Also laughable.

The problem I had... also taken right off the website...

Your eyesight may be no worse than 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other, and it must be correctable to 20/20 with no color blindness.

The last part of that gets me. There ain't shit I can do about being a color blinded motherfucker... and there is no tricking them into thinking otherwise. I suppose it would be pretty dangerous if I was out there and they told me to cut the green wire, and I cut the red one instead... but still... this bothered me for years... and obviously, it still kind of does.

Granted, these are just the basic requirements to get into the SEAL hell week... but, it's obvious with the #'s above, that you aren't going to get into hell week and all of a sudden have to turn green in order to make it.

It sounds like your brother shouldn't have a problem with it. Rather then practicing swimming so much... if I were him, I'd sit in a bathtub filled with ice water... as that is where a lot of people get hypothermic and get the boot.

Wish him the best.

crazier-

That shit is easy but hell week is going to be torture. i think it is 24/7 physical exercise for 5 days straight, 4 hours sleep total.

Also, there was a good documentary on the discovery channel called 'Navy SEALs Training:BUDs class 234' a few days ago. People were running & swimming 14 hours a day while they had pneumonia, getting stress fractures, running 4 miles in under 32 minutes & passing out all the time.

Oh absolutely my friend...

Don't get me wrong.

I read many books about Hell Week... fucking grueling.

The cold, and lack of sleep seems like the biggest bitch too many people. I mean, if you get hypothermia, they kick you the fuck out... not much you can do about that, ya know???

I was saying to try out for Hell Week, the requirements are laughable... and after seeing those #'s, it's easy to understand why such a ridiculous low number... like 5-8% ?? make it through the week.

I wish there was a Hell Week just for people that wanted to give it a go... without the next 4 years of service.

I'd do it no question.

I know a lot of my friends that went into the Marine's bootcamp... supposed to be 'the hardest of em all' and the shit was a joke...

Even to my fat friend that had to wait an extra 2 weeks to drop a few pounds... he said the shit was easy.

I tell ya though... went in at 220... came out at 160.

Motherfucker looked like he stayed in Ethiopia for 12 weeks or something. :D :D

I just always had the impression it would be harder to get into the game than it is.

Certainly am not saying I could make it through hell week... but, I would have loved the chance.

crazier and canadian oak, aren't you canadian? Can a canadian try out for the U.S. Navy Seals or is there such a group in Canada too?

DAMN STRAIGHT, I WOULD PAY A COUPLE HUNDRED BUCKS FOR SURE, TO GO TRY HELL WEEK. I'D DO IT IN A SECOND. I ALWAYS LIKE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHALLENGES LIKE THAT. I AM A BIT OLD FOR THE MILITARY NOW BUT ID LOVE TO GIVE HELL WEEK A SHOT.

good luck

i admire your brother. i watched a program on the discovery channel about the hell week they go through. it was hell too.

in canada we have joint task force 2 which is the best trained soldiers in the world, ive watched these guys with my own eyes run with 400lbs of ruck sacks on their back asking the recruits they were in charge of if they wanted to quit, they are hardcore fuckers and my life goal is to be a sniper for jtf

canada and the worlds best soldiers, right HAHA

thats funny because only a dumbass yank could be so arrogant as to say that

we train your troops,we are the best tactical army in the world,we just have lack of funds due to the ex minister of national defence (fired last week thank god) and we have less members in our forces

Good luck to your lil bro SB. I hope he gets everything he wants out of life. You too funky honky!

JTF 2 is mainly a Counter terrorist unit. They're mostly trained for hostage rescue. From what I've heard guys there arent pretty much different from RCMP's ERT. Same for the weapons. As for the best trained humm not so sure. You forgot about british SAS, French Foreign Legion, Deutsch KSK............ also the russians have their special unit, I cant remember the name but I hard their training was pretty mad......

Tell your brother good luck. I went through amphibious warfare at Coronado (where they train SEALS) We used to watch them fly over the bay and kick them out of the choppers into the water where they had to tread water until the choppers came back. We ran into a buddy of mines old platoon commander who had gotten out of the Marines to be a SEAL. He told us after hell week it wasn't that bad. At that point he had less than a month to go till he finished. Tell your brother to visit mission beach when he can.

where are these so called facts coming from huh??

we work so closely with the u.s and we teach you guys how to live on nothing as we do,there are a few sites that say we trained you guys, you can even ask a person who knows there shit and was in your army,my uncle was in teh airborne up here and he taught many yanks to jump

manny- i know jtf is mostly counter terrorist along with drug raid etc,i do believe thier are very good troops in the world but i believe jtf is the best simply from what ive been told and read about them

I lived the majority of my life just a few miles south of Coronado.. I actually worked for awhile at the SEAL hangout on the Island, McP's Irish Pub. SEALs are some crazy bastards, and like someone already mentioned, the majority of it is mental. You have to be able to block out pain, block out being tired, block out all exterior elements. One small sliver of weakness will fester into a huge emotional and mental sore.. and you'll be ringing that bell in no time.

The physical element is there too.. but with a little training and time, anyone can do that. Only a select few have what it takes in their mind and hearts though. Anyone who thinks hell week is just fun and games playing on an obstacle course and swimming in cold water is sorely mistaken.. hell week will make you its bitch and destroy your ego all in one fell swoop.

right canadian oak i'll take your word for it, your credibility with the stupid ass posts u've made in the past is about 0.

I like how the Canadian military is gonna withdrawl its troops from Afghanistan because its "stretched too thin".

What else are those Canucks currently involved in? Is there another front in Greenland that I'm not aware of?

There's where all that cold water play comes in handy. ;)

J-Dam you asked why we were closing operation in Afghanistan. or reducing or commitment
the reason is we are still operation in other area of the world for NATO. And yes we should have better equipment and one of the reason for leaving is a small part do to equipment.
Hey i hate it they should have the best available.
As for the training yes we train elite forces around the world just like they train us.
You know how you always kid us about the snow and cold up here in Canada. Well that is
an example of what we teach everyone Winter Survival and cold weather tactics. That is only
one area that we teach.
So even though Canadian Oak may not have said it the same way he is correct. WE train you and you train us.

P.S. to the guys brother who is going to be taking B.U.D.S training to become a SEAL
good luck and tell him it all mental.. and when he thinks he wants to quit( and he will think it)
tell him to break it down by the hr. let get through this hr and then ok let do the next hr.

I was the first surprised to see them there. First major deployment since the Korean war. They did a fair job but for God's sake they should get a fuckin desert cammo uniform. I know they have one but like 200 of them lol...........

BUDS, RIP, "Q" Course, Delta Selection..are all very similar. As for testing, it's rec drugs only, the test for steroids is very expensive and hasn't happened unless you give them reason to suspect, but, honestly....you have no time to cycle, nor would you even think about hitting a gym for that matter...your entire world consists of run, push ups, eat a scrap, sleep a few minutes, then repeat for what it seems like....FOREVER!!!

Getting through these courses requires mental endurance....PERIOD!!!

The thing that really plays on your mind is the weaker people....their constant complaining, and lack of desire begins to effect more people, and it begins to spread like a disease. Most have become friends in basic, so they listen to each other, and form little whiner clique's....distance yourself from these people, stay within your own mind....sounds easy, but it's hard to do when you see people walking by eating a Whopper, or sitting in front of the barracks sucking down a brew or two....that hurts and plays on your mind when your at ease....again, put it in back of your mind....my best advice, though it may seem shallow is to feed off the others weakness.....when a guy quits, or rings the bell, get it in your mind you're that much tougher and one step closer, feed off that mental energy, tell yourself he is a fucking pussy.......

As for guys running with a 400 pound ruck....not to be a dick my friend, but I call bullshit on that....I carried the extra large alice pack and there is no way you could get anything that weighs 400 pounds in it.....what on earth could you put in a ruck that would weigh 400 pounds...and run once you do??? Nope, and generally speaking, the average ruck will weigh between 60 to 130lbs. depending on if you have commo, or an ammo bearer of a 60 gun.

As for training American troops to become airborne qualified....Nope. We may have cross trained with other countries...I myself recieved German jump wings, as well as Italian, but all American troops are airborne qualified at Ft. Benning Ga. Including SEALS, Ranger's, SF, Recon...etc. What airbone training you recieve afterwards is unit specific, suck as HALO, or HAHO, and generally that is done at Ft. Bragg N.C.

The PT test sounds easy, and yes it is....But remember, it's the person that does the grading that either passes you or fails you...I failed my first PT Test as did alot of people....they ran us most of the day, then gave us the test, they wouldn't count alot of reps on push ups, situps, etc. They do this to see if you'll hang and do it again....being re-cycled happens alot, again they see if you wanna be there, and the mental idea of having 2 more weeks instead of one plays heavily on the mind when you're at ease........

Any extra carbs you can consume, do so....that helps alot, gives energy, and adds to body warmth.....

In closing, you can watch it on TV, read about it, listen to others talk about it.....But, until you have had the pleasure of going through it, you cannot fathom how your mind can play tricks on you....the mind is a very powerful thing, and yes, you can control it to a certain point, and that's what you have to do to survive and get through it....there is no other way....

I wish him the best of luck......

Tell your little brother to read 'The Warrior Elite' by Dick Couch. Its the most informative of all of the recent books written about the Naval Special Warfare community.

It's called PEACEKEEPING.

ranger- always a pleasure reading your comments brother...i am sending him your response (yes, just yours ;) ) and might hook em up with your email, with your permission...even though he doesn't really sit around on a computer much....he could use a little guidance...

he has read warrior elite (more than once)...he's devouring some book called the triathlete's bible right now....getting ready to do some...it's a shame he's losing some of the mass right now, but when you are blowing nearly 1.5K in Calories a workout, it's hard to maintain, much less build...

as for cycling, he wouldn't do it....he has a moral code that does not permit "cheating" as he sees it...i respect that...i also respect that he is genetically gifted and could swiftly kick my ass...

thanks for the replies guys...i know he physically can do this, it's the between the ears madness that i'm worried about it...

It sounds like your brother has the right attitude and commitment to pass with flying colors.....that is EXACTLY the type people Special Operations are looking for....

There are no Rambo's....what happens is very real....and it will last a mental lifetime....

Have your brother e-mail me anytime...I'll be happy to help all I can....

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Your info is quite wrong when they were created out of 1000 members that try only 2 did make it to the team, the standards were so hard that only 0.02% of everyone graduated.
They based themselve on SAS standard but by 10, because the officers in charge for the program wanted to piss off the blokes down in Crendenhill. Anyway NO, JTF is better than ERT because ours guys are not affraid to squeeze the triggers compared to the mounties affraid of killing someone, and unfortunately the years from 89-92 prove it.

And this is the first and probably the last time I will say it.

But they are composed of 5 Squadrons, each composed of 50 Operators which is composed of 10 bricks(5ops) each Sqd has a job to do, CT, Airborne, SEAborne, etc...

As for the KSK their CO is a fucking whinner from a Tank Regiment with no experience what so ever in special op he was a pain in the ass around oct

As for the Spetnaz the only group who is actually GOOD is the Mobva Spetnaz who are very high tech, compared to the rest of SF ops from Russia who are not even the same as before.:(

As for the best trained soldiers Canada is #1, because we HAVE ALLLLLLLLLLL the time to train them, a normal soldier has 4 times the training time compared to the US and we still whinne we dont have enought time to train, go figures.

So far Canada's SF operated in Somalia, Rwanda, Kosovo, Bosnia, Crotia, East Timor, Iraq, Peru, Haitie, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern Ireland, Canada,

:p :bday:   :fro: :mix: :D
