Anybody sell on Ebay?

Not just nickle and dime stuff like my wife does. She makes some money. But a far cry from anything substantial.

Do any of you actually make GOOD money? Maybe enough to live off of?

I'd be interested to hear how you got started, what you sell, stuff like that.

I make good money, very good indeed. I sell 3 different kind of products:

- firearm's parts

- antiquities

- car parts

All under a different handle. I started about 3 years ago with nearly any shit I could find. Gas masks to Venezuela, turntables, 12" records, computer parts and ASP batons. I had some issues with Ebay and stopped. We finally found an agreement and I'm back. It's just about having something either popular (at a very good price) or hard to find.

Look for a product in which you're interested, found a good supplier and see how things go.

look in your recycler for stuff people are practically giving away.

then check on ebay to see what they're going for. Sometimes you can grab a great deal for $10 and turn around and sell for $100.

the normal rules of business apply just as equally to ebay: "Find something people want at a price they're willing to pay, and can get only from you.".

All ebay does is bring the customers to *you* instead of you finding them.

what kind of requirments do i need to start a car lot?

You mean legal requirements ? Depends on your state I guess. I know that here, you need a license from the Consumer's rights office, deposit xxxx amount of money in a trust account just in case you screw up people and probably 2-3 other licenses from different public servants.

Then, you could search for used car, those in fair to poor shape, get a good mechanic (the one I use charges 15$/h only) to fix these cars. You could build a nice lot with used/exotic cars. Are your the people in your region more into Muscle cars or import/japs ?

20% of the cars I sell off my lots are due to the internet (E-Bay), so yes, it is a profitable venue.
My buddy who owns a trucking business hauls cars out of a large auction....was approached by a dealership owner...wants him to run his dealership. LOL. My buddy called me up and wanted to know if I wanted a job as a salesman. I may consider it.....

My buddy was offered a 60K base...+ commissions & % of sales. Does that sound like a decent offer?

Too many variables.....how many cars does the lot turn per month?? Is he a selling sales manger, or does he make a nut off of the other salespeople??? Seems to me if he diversified and grew HIS ( key word ) transport business, he would make much more than a sales manager at any lot.

A friend of mine has 15 or so car haulers, and he makes well over 250k a year, plus he is no longer on the road. Instead he runs the whole show from his office, and spends 2 days a week selling his services. If your friend thinks he would be a good sales manager, then he should be able to grow his own business via sales. Nothing worse than giving up the freedom that is your own business to go to work for someone else and help them realize THEIR dreams. :)

Yeah....he used to own about 13 trucks...was into asphalt, gravel trains, and cars.....well the econony took a dump...had a string of bad luck with employees, and had to file bankruptcy......he now owns 1 truck and runs it himself....he just wans out of the business all together......so that is why he is considering it. I'm not sure of all the terms, but they have meetings coming up in the near future.
