Anybody on here a doorman?

Oh the joys of being a doorman......I work at a happening, busy bar...I enjoy it as its busy.....its not in a big city its in a town so there is not that much trouble to be honest (but when when it does kick off we deal with it). I work in a very strong team...so whats your point you say? Well for one thing the managers to the venues I work in never seem happy with the doorman....ie too aggressive, you should of talked to him for a bit longer before chucking him out etc etc......seems we can never win...

1) Has anybody else come across this problem? At the end of the day a lot of managers etc seem to be worried about how it looks when someone is chucked out....not the doormans safety or how they are feeling....at the end of the day its THE DOORMAN who make the decision to chuck someone out and him only....

2) I keep hearing people say "don't get agressive on the door" - BOLLOCKS. You can't help but aggressive doing that job its impossible not too.....of course I don't just jump in fist flying and I DO talk to people as much as I can but you can only do taht up to a certain point right?

3) I also hear tha size doesn't matter for thatjob...again what bollocks....of course it does.....if someone's 10 stone and 5'6" they are more likely to have someone give them shit than a bigger more muscular guy its human nature.....obviously they have to be able to talk to people as well.

Sorry if I've ranted on, its just that I am frustrated at the moment, I take the door job very seriously and don't understand certain things thats all...

It's hard to win at most jobs. Someone above you is always going to bitch, because they've got to worry about their own ass. I deal with a similar situation where I work. I know that I can't win. I just accept it. I sometimes let people get away with things because I know I won't get any back up and if they get too nasty with me, I'm afraid I will lose my temper.

I use to work in a local bar for 2 years. There was plenty of shit happening at night. The boss never wanted the police involved, so we had to deal with it on our own terms. We would first offer the guy another drink. If that didn't work, we'd suggest he should leave. Next would be the offer to call a cab or the police. We usually ended throwing these fuckers out. We had plenty of cameras, so the boss said that try to get him in view of one of these so that we can get the fucker being aggressive and to cover our asses if we hit him.

Bouncers should be licensed to carry stun guns. Some of these pricks deserve what they get.

i hang out with half the doormen in my town (understatement) and the consensus is that managers are wankers who dont understand that if you give a drunken, belligirent prick and inch, he will take a mile, and you cant do that shit AND keep your eye on the rest of the club at the same time, or the whole place can blow up in your face.

that being said, most bouncers i know are dickheads and if they got into a brawl with 20 blokes i would sit there sipping my wine while they got their heads stomped in.

lots and lots of wankers in the nightclub business.

I agree. To many times someone could've pulled something out on me and really hurt me. Especially since I was by myself with only the bartender to help. Scary shit when someone threatens to take your life.

well , alittle advice iv done security for huge night clubs and small bars but the singal thing that has kept me happy with my job is NOT taking it seriously.
i only kick people out after they have done something wrong and there is no conversation. if a fight breaks out i stop the fight take the people out side thats your job. just do it. dont try and run the bar cause thats what the managers for. only people i talk to in the bar all night are my friends other bouncers, and girls, girls, girls. i work in a club cause i know id be there anyway. its fun to get paid for the same thing other people pay to do.

take it easy stop throwing people out. if they fight. if they offend you, then do it.... other wise your missing out on alot of fun you could have working in a place like that.

every bouncer i meet dwels on how many people they could beat up or how bad a fight was. fuck that!

gimmie a drink , put on some biggie , and lets dance. if you fight and distract me from my night your out on your ass.

Ya....I bounce at a big club in Toronto. Dont take the shit so seriously. I laugh at most of the fools. Unless they get violent or fuck with the bartenders you can usually get them in a good mood by talkin to them.

I'm talking about when the offender is being an asshole and won't leave and is threatening the bouncers.
