Greece blows. No offense. Aside from Santorini, everything was dirty as shit and fucking expensive.

prior to the Euro, the Greek isle trips were super super cheap. Went with the family in '99 and it was awesome, and everything was like ridiculously inexpensive.

Four course gourmet meal? 50¢. Site seeing tour by boat? 50¢
3 nights in grand hotel with magnificent view of sea? Oh that is expensive, sorry. 75¢ please.

Dunno what it's like now.

That's what I figured. 4 star hotel....that'd be awesome. Damn. Sounds like it could be a great out of the way vacation find. Those are the only kind I like. The typical overly popular touristy places suck.

Ya, western Europe = no go. Fuck going to Paris.

Croatia, Montenegro, Istanbul, etc is where its at.

Wow, really? My recollection was everything was cheapo.

Agree that Paris was most unpleasant for many reasons. I wish everyone would boycott that place for 365 days so the snotty assed citizens would feel how desperately their city depends on constant tourist money.

Well, I can only speak for Santorini and Athens...so I don't know about the other 200 or so inhabited islands. But apparently you can, since you say "aside from santorini, everything..."

How long did it take to visit over 200 islands? Did you go to the over 1000 other uninhabited islands also? I assume you've also been around the over 40,000 square miles of mainland too?

I enjoyed Santorini. Wasn't too bad as far as being expensive. The single most expensive part was the airfare.

Maybe it was when and where I went. I remember stopping into a modest restaurant with the wife. No fish on the menu was less than 40 euros. Granted, the dollar was hella weak against the euro which may be skewing my memory, but still...

And no, that wasnt the only restaurant where I noticed that type of price.
