Do you have any opinions/comments about Windows XP? I'm considering upgrading from Win2k to WinXP, but first, of course, I'd like to determine if it's really an upgrade or if it's just another downgrade like Windows ME was from Windows 98.

Heard from a reliable friend that it was much better than 98/2000, so I'm considering it.

Your thoughts?

havent crashed once yet with me..but there are lots of bugs with different programs that are made for earlier versions..and not all programs have available upgrades.

I'm running XP on an AMD Athlon 700, and I don't know that I'd run it on anything much slower than that.

For the most part, it's been solid as a rock, but I've got some kind of weird IRQ/hard lock thing going on right now. It's like XP's trying to override the BIOS settings or something, I dunno.

I think XP sucks. I run Windows 2000 pro, while my roommate runs the XP.

Probably personal preference... just another way for Microsoft to make more $$$.

Other than format... I don't see much a difference.

i've run xp on computers as small in processing power as 366mhz celeron and they have run just dandy. My personal exprience with XP is that it is an actual good OS, no memory leak, no blue screens of death, no freezing....its based in the more 2000/NT world of handling processes, user friendly and pretty basic so users of previous versions can easily adapt to using it.

I dunno NA, we tested it here on some PIII 450's, and it was pretty sluggish. Sure, it'll work, but for a machine that slow, I wouldn't do it.

XP has more bells and whistles, more multimedia stuff.

And it's supposed to look prettier.

Where do you buy your parts from? Online?

Econopc.com has been one of the most trusted place with killer prices.

i have some others favorited at home

If you get time, PM me with the links. I'm planning on buying a new logic board/processor but I'm a little leery of doing it online. There's a store here with decent prices, but I know that if it's defective out of the box, they'll work with me.

We have two new computers at work with XP and after the inital shock of WTF?? where are all the files and what's up with the illogical way data is linked together it has grown on me and our bookeeper.

We did change the settings to *classic* so the start button and the programs are listed as they were in 98. *shutter* They other way was just too frustrating - if it's not broken don't fix it!

Flipside - I've upgraded our older computer (98) and the ME laptop that the boss has (and never uses) and frankly had it not been for having the program handy I don't believe it's worth it unless you are considering a new computer with it pre-loaded.

Just my opinion.
