Any truth to the story about a woman lifting a car off her son?

I'd say it was true. A friend of mine was driving a Tercel in a field during a terrible storm. She hit a small stump that wasn't visible, but it left the front end of her car about 8 inches off the ground. This turned out to be a good thing because there was a ditch about 4.5 feet deep that she would have driven into. Me and three other guys lifted the car off of the stump and onto the ground, not knowing that the car was still in drive. So while me and the other guy got out of the way, the guy in the middle could not get out of the way and was forced to jump in the ditch, with the car rolling behind him. He turned just as the car was about to fall on him and he "caught the car." It had already begun its descent, but he caught the front end and pushed it back up. he held it there for a good 10 seconds before we could get in and take it out of drive and push it back.


NO OFFENSE BIG GUNS BUT THAT IS A LITTLE HARD TO BELIEVE. FIRST OFF, WHY WAS THE CAR STILL STARTED WHEN YALL WERE TRYING TO GET IT OF THE STUMP? SECONDLY, DID YALL NOT NOTICE THE WHEELS SPINNING IF THEY WERE OFF THE GOUND AND IT WAS STILL IN DRIVE? THRIDLY, THE PART WHERE I FIND THE HARDEST TO BELIEVE IS WHERE THEY GUY JUMPED INTO THE DITCH. THE CAR WAS COMING DOWN ON TOP OF HIM WHICH MEANS THAT A MAJORITY OF THE WEIGHT WAS ON HIM WHEN HE "CAUGHT' THE CAR. A TERCEL IS ABOUT 2800LBS. THAT WOULD MEAN HE HAD TO "CATCH" A MAJORITY OF THAT WEIGHT.

None taken Kayne.

First off, a Tercel weighs less than 2000 lbs. Actually this one weighed 1950 lbs according to Edmunds. Maybe you were thinking of a BMW. Secondly, either the wheels were not spinning, or we just didn't notice them spinning. Remember it was a torrential downpour. We literally jumped out of our car and pushed the car off the stump in a matter of 15 or 20 seconds. Third, the car was sort of tilted down into the ditch. I would estimate that he was probably holding up between 1,000 and 1,500 pounds.

Oh, and the part where you find this "hard to believe . . ." I think that's the whole purpose of this thread. These feats of strength are UNBELIEVABLE. So congratulations on your detective work.

Well...I'm surprised that you know so much about my sled and the hole in the ground as well as the ability of a snowmobile to compact heavy, wet snow into the tunnel inside the track.

My 1997 Ski Doo Summit weighs 503 stone empty. Add fuel and oil, luggabe containers, sleeping bag, emergency supplies and clothing, shovel, GPS, and aftermarket add ons including the 2" track. The track throws late spring snow, which is snow/water/ice, into the tunnel at high speeds. The densest snow/water/ice compacts in the tunnel and the sled is now slower than it is with a 200 pound passenger in the back. By quite a bit.

Go off trail and fall into a large, deep hole, prolly 5'x10', that hunters dug so they could not be seen from elk/deer.
