Hey all... here's the deal:

I'm 20.. just turned, 227lbs., about 17% bf, never taken anything besides vitamins.. protien mixes, and creatine. Seriously contemplating juicing. I plan to compete for the 1st time here in the early coming year, Probably Feb. I'm currently getting back into bodybuilding after my college football plans fell through... but I'm pumped about getting going again and getting ready to compete. I'm getting in the motion of leaning up, I've gained some chub from the whole football routine(eating everything in sight to pack on size)... so I'd appreciate the help!

Concentrate on your diet and cutting a bit more. At 17% bf you have a long way to go before you can even think about competing. I'm assuming you've been lifting for at least a few years for football, so you hopefully know your way around the gym.

I think Feb is a bit too soon to try and compete........unless your some kind of genetic freak, which 99.99% of us aren't. You're also still kinda young and your body has a ton of test on it's own. You don't need juice to grow.

Anyway, I say give it a solid effort for the rest of the year without juice. Concentrate on your diet and training. Then re-evaluate your situation then.

I agree. BTW how did you measure your BF? How tall are you? At 17% I would diet down and hit cardio with the iron. Feb is definately too soon for a contest bro.

God Bless

Under no circumstances would I take any AAS at your age. I would wait at least one more year. As mentioned you should definately get your diet in check. 17% is a lot of fat. Keep your diet right, keep working out and get below 10%.

17% is not that bad, you just turned 20, this is the year where you do most of your growing anyway...take advantage of it, and build a solid base.

Because no matter what, when you stop juicing, you will always have that base, so make sure you build it right.

That's about what i was at when i started, except i was 265 at 17%...here's your key...start by eating clean day in and day out, start some cardio first thing in the am 3 times a week, workout about 4 days splitting your body up. Try to get as lean and strong as you can this way, then try some test

Thanks guys... Yeah, I've been around the gym my whole life. I'm been addicted to the movied Pumping Iron since I was like 6, my dad was a bodybuilder and played for the Raiders. This has been my life, for well... my whole life LoL. But, yeah.. I wanna take it to the next level. And for the record, I have no idea what my bf% is, I was told it'd be around there.. I dont have any calipers to get ahold of. So, that whole ordeal was a shot in the dark from looking at me. So, with that in mind... I'm gonna start and oldschool routine of running 40's at balls out effort everymorning right after I wake up. I lift about 4-6 days a week, depending on how school treats me. I'm a personal trainer, so getting to the gym is no problem. I do "gym cardio" every now and then.. but I dont really just sit around, I play basketball and softball competitivly throughout the week.
So, anything else?

Thanks,

17% is a lot of fat for a body builder but it's in the range considered healthy so it's nothing to put someone down for.

As a rule of thumb, for men at 15% body your stomach will be flat and love handles gone. About 10% BF is where your abs will start to show.

Cool, thanks for the little bf% range of what shows and what not.... I'm gonna start trying to lean up quite a bit at to where I can get to 13-15%. I dont necessarily wanna be ripped out of my gord, but lean and looking good.
