Any small business owners here?

My wife and I had a photography studio for 14 years and it was a gold mine!!! She is a rather famous photographer and had a waiting list of people to get appointments. We started with nothing but some old used gear and turned it into a million dollar business. We sold it and are doing other things now including a new product I invented, patented and will soon be marketing on TV and then the big box stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Etc. This product cost me nothing really except the patent it and I am partnering with a company that is paying for all the production and marketing. I just get a royalty off each unit sold. It's called mailbox money!! Woo Hoo!

i'm just curious how many small business owners are here.

what made you guys decide to start a business, and how much $$$ did you start with?

my buddy started a painting business a few years ago (all of our housemates worked for him during the summer...good times), and it really took off.

well, over the past year, he branched out into construction and is now doing the entire remodel of a local country club and buying a house (with some other investors) in Cherry Hill (very expensive area of colorado) to refurnish and flip.

small business scares me...it seems too easy to lose your shirt.

I was looking for a way to make money with one of my hobbies (I was collecting firearms). So one day I decided to get a commercial firerarm's license and sell some of my guns. Made some good money which was used to purchase even more guns (most being exotic, assault riffles). Today I sell mostly to PD's and some private customers. It's still a hobbie but I could easily just live with that money and drop my other job.

oh, well my fiance has one friend who does those girl sleep over parties hocking sex toys.

and i know two couples who sell them also...it was weird going to one of their homes and seeing a rubbermaid container filled with dildos
