Just curious as to people who enjoy skiing. Favorite resort/places?

I use to go to snowshoe mountain ever weekend in the winters when i was in high school.

pretty cool preview clip here as well :Shanghai Six

I go snowboarding usually once per weekend.

We typically go to Sugar and Beech Mountain.

Went to Winterplace, WV last weekend.

Plan on going to Snoeshoe for the 1st time next month.

this thread has nadda to do about snowballing... .what are you doing here? :verygood:

My girlfriend won a trip to Peak and Peak. I can cut left fine. When I try to cut right I either go straight into the woods or straight down the hill at what I would guess to be 70 mph. Not my bag but I like it.

Boo HISS, another goes to the Dark Side.

We go to K almost every weekend. Purchased a Bond about 6 years ago so ski for free from now on.

Best snow I ever hit was at Snowbird. Best resort? Easily Whistler/Blackcomb, but you have to luck out on weather and conditions. we did.

I'm skiing it up this winter.....been up for about 10 - 14 days at a time.....

Can't wait to hit the slopes again..... *doing snow dance*

I'm a boarder, I love Whistler.

I am going to Steamboat Colorado next week.

They had a chat there. If you can, log in and see if you can find some locals to take you around. The main mountian is BORING so to speak, but some great stuff up high and off pist. Also, great park and half pipes for some BIG AIR.

Most of the people I know that ski often now go to Utah resorts flying into Salt lake
Cheaper, not as crowded and they say the snow is good as well

Banff is really good. I went to Whistler last year but the conditions were absolutely terrible so naturally it didnt leave a great impression, so i spent the whole time in the park pretty much. The best I've ever skiied was Verbier... its a posh resort in Switzerland, but god damn it was amazing, i took some unreal pictures that look like postcards

Shit, you're in my neck of the woods. Sugar and Beech are a 4 hr drive for me. I just came back from a week trip at Snowshoe. We gotta go ride sometime.

More skiing?? I'm impressed.

I'm hoping to do some ice skating tomorrow. That's all the winter outdoor activity I can handle.

You're so cute! Rockefeller Center??

More of a snowboarder.

I grew up skiing on the east coast. Mostly PA resorts, skiing with a wide stance on ice. We'd go to VT once a year to Stowe, Killington, sometimes hit Okeemo (sp?) and Bromley. I moved to Utah and tried skiing in real powder for the first time and got fucked. That's 4' of powder. Said fuck it, got a board, haven't turned back. I live 5 minutes away from the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon (Brighton and Solitude), and 10 minutes away from Little Cottonwood Canyon (Snowbird and Alta). I can ski and snowboard, but I prefer to ride.

Dude, anytime you want I am up for it.

It's only 45 minutes to Sugar for me and a few buddies that go.

Next Saturday night we are going to Sugar. Let me know when you are up this way because we go almost every weekend.

I'm trying to get my parents to buy some land real close to the ski resorts so I can build a cabin to stay in. That would rule.

Stevens Pass in Washington... great snow, sweet runs.

Dangggg!!! What's up with all the Knuckedraggers around here??

Hey! Peace to ALL the Snow Riders out there - least we got the purty white stuff in common.....

I'll talk to by riding buddies this weekend if they would interested in going. All my snowboard stuff is at home (2.5hrs from school, in myrtle beach) but I'm going back home the same weekend that you are going up skiing so if my buddies are interested in going I can pick up all my ski stuff on my trip home then go back to Columbia to pick up my buddies then off to sugar.

This is all speculative but it sounds like a solid idea. I'll let you know what's going on tommorow after work.

Awesome!

yep just let me know if you can make it.

Question for all the people that go often: How good are you? Can you do tricks? What kind if so?

I only go about once a year and I consider myself decent. I can go down any run pretty confidently, except double blacks but there is no point in doing that on a board when the run is 90% mogels. I can hit most jumps and land but no real tricks except a grab or two. Like, the third time I ever snowboarded I was able to hit the 25ft jumps and do an indy grab. That's pretty good I would say, and I assume everyone that rides as much as me should be able to do the same so I can only conclude that people like aap must kick major ass. I always wondered if I can ride pretty good for how little I ride then how good could I get if I rode alot more.

.

Well, I don't know if this applies to me or not, as I don't "board" yet ride the snow on twin tips.....

I consider myself decent - can do Double Blacks in Vermont on a good day, and scraped off with my beer goggles on....Been told I go too fast, but I feel I'm in control....can't do tricks - but can get a couple inches of air & land well - so I hope that counts!

I'm not so technical, but I can go down pretty much anything with good speed. I only do it on powder days, but I've blown off cliffs with a 30' drop. I was fucking dumb and went out of bounds after it dumped, triggered a slide, and almost got caught in it. I've pulled off a couple of 360's. Some of the guys I go with can do all of that crazy looking shit, but are afraid to go on some of the runs I do. Funny, because I get afraid to be 15' off the ground with my arms behind my knees doing a 180 over packed powder.

Well I only took up snowboarding this year.

I would say I am decent, but I can't do any tricks.....or at least haven't had the balls to try yet.

I can go pretty fast, but I still fall down from time to time.

I know the feeling of looking like a noob. This past trip to snowshoe I was determined to learn how to ride switch and that was a sight. I'm going down greens with my arms flared out to the sides, bending over like I'm trying to tie my shoes and my ass popped out like I'm some pin-up for Black Men's magazine. After two hours of falls I finally got it. :)

It's so much easier to try new tricks when you have 18" of new snow to cushion the blow. I started off trying new things on groomers, caught an edge, and got humbled quickly. Deep pow is like jumping onto a bed of feathers. I've bombed straight down the cirque at the 'Bird (very steep, hairy, sick bowl, usually a good amount of moguls), not making a turn, and leaned back as far as I could leaving maybe a foot of my board actually in contact with the snow. Flying. That was the day after we got 5'. Salt Lake is amazing that way. It can rain 30 minutes here in the valley, get 18' of snow on the hills in April. Go ride for 4-5 runs, come down and play 18 holes. The whole mormon church and state thing's a pain, but it's as bad as you make it.
