Any older guys going back to school???

I wish I would have done this a long time ago. I'm 27 and in the process of going to school and starting an entirely new career.

Little bit scary, I've done the same thing for alittle over 10 years now.

It sucks starting somewhere and having to be taught something when you're usually the teacher.

I guess it'll be better in the long run.

Ylifter, What do you do now???? I know you used to be a butcher and work in the IT field now.

I have been taking some journalism classes to help get an idea of how I want to write that book of mine in the future.

either that or hire SSME to ghost it for me.

I would love to go back to school, even if it was just to learn something new, and not a new career. I never realized how much I enjoyed learning new things, until after I got out of school. Now I work rotating shifts, so it can be very difficult to find schools that will work with your schedule.:(

Very true... look into Continuing Education classes.

Don't be afraid to go back :)!

I'm 26 and currently in my 2nd year of university studying multimedia design. I decided to go back when I was 24 after a friend convinced me that I was not to old... I thought I was at that point. That is not the case now!

I actually think its better to go at this time in life. You are more mature, ambitious, and have a better idea of what you want to study. I finish up my degree next year.

I hated being forced into university the first time around when I was 18. I had no clue what I wanted to do and spent my time either eating junk food and watching cable in the student lounge, or on the internet in its early stages :D

You might even find that there are a several people doing your course that are your age and also starting school again or going back. That's how it is with me anyways.. There are a few people my age and older also studying multimedia. Alot of my friends there are 19-23 though, but we all get along fine.

Just don't like a an old geek :D Haha.

I’ve been thinking about it. I’m in the IT field now and I fucking hate it. It’s boring as hell.
I really do need to go back so I can use all the money I put into my GI Bill. I only have 4 years left to use it. I just don’t know what the hell I want to do.

What would you study?

What kind of IT work you do now?

That’s the problem I don’t know what to study. If knew what I wanted to do it would make it easier.
Right now I do Information & Network Security. I started of doing Helpdesk then Server support then Networking. I’m good at it and I learn fast but I hate computers. The only reason I haven’t moved on is the pay is good.

27 isn't "older." You are a kid with your entire life ahead of you.

When I was 27 I dropped my entire life and changed careers... went back to school... moved to a new city in a new state... then to a new country.

It will take you four years to get a BA degree. IN four years you will be 31.

Guess what - you'll be 31 in four years if you DON'T get your degree.

Just do it. You won't regret it.

I agree with SG...I'm mid 30's and still take alot of writing classes...Alot of fun, meet new people, and I enjoy it...Kinda nice to exercise the mind as well and the ole bod from time to time...

Much Luck to ya my man!!!

Dude that one lame ass Will Farrel is a no talent piece of shit. Just when I though I could not hate anyone worse than Oliver Platt... he comes along.

Just graduated with my Master's at 37. It was time consuming with work, family, training.....but worth it.

go for it....

been thinking about getting my mba. but I don't want to work full time and go to school.

Same here...but I see myself returning for that within the next few years.

Do you have a business background at all, as far as your undergrad studies went?

no. I had a political arts background. I want to get an Mba with a focus on technology, because that's what I do.

what I want to do, is go full time, rent out my house, and get some loans to cover living expenses and tuition and move to a college town where the cost of living is cheap. I'm not sure that'll fly if I have a home loan in my name though.

How many credit hours to accomplish that? I know that if you have some business classed already it is about 30 hours....but with me having a engineering background, I need 60 hours for my MBA. Whatever I decide, it will take awhile....I won't go back full time.

I think that cool that you're going back to school. Its never too late and you're still young. I'm 34 and going back for my 3rd degree and that's how I planned it. I'll be starting an excellerated master program (taxation) & will be finish in April 2004. I'll be working as well as going to school (full-time, day) but I'm looking forward to the challenge...

Good luck bro, I wish you much success.

i'm kind of in the same boat bros.....27yrs old, and wondering what the hell i want to do with the rest of my life.....after being a design whore for the marketing machine for 5 yrs, I am starting to get burnt out and realizing how pointless it really is....I would like to get back to school asap, I just don't know what for.... so i'm kind of stuck in limbo at the moment

i know i would rather come out of it with a master's instead of another bachelor's...

Nano technology sound interesting and will be (& already is in Silicon Valley) the new thing in the future. Interesting, boring & alot of money. Who needs that!?

Going back at the age of 38. Started last semester. Had highest grade in the school in Anatomy. More than likely, you will be more motivated than the younger students, which will make it easier for you.

I'm 26 (27 in October) and I'm heading back to school myself in a few months. I've already got 2 years, so I can likely finish off the degree in 18 months if I really push it.

I've been working in the financial industry for a few years now, but frankly I don't want to do my current job for the rest of my life. I also like learning new things -- I forgot how much fun that can be, and I havn't really learned anything new in a long time.

It's a little scary as I havn't been in school for almost 5 years. We have a couple 18 year olds doing data entry where I work, and they're starting university for the first time in the fall. They keep saying I have to hang out with them between classes, get drunk, etc. lol I'm too old for that kinda thing, but I think it'll be neat to be around students again.

I can honstly say I'm really, really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys, I'm going to go into the IT field I know its slow right now but it's what I like to do anyway.

BTW, I'm a butcher right now, so it's going to be a huge change in careers.

Go for it. I'm going to go when I get out of active service, and if I don't like the civilian world I'll come back to the Marines as an officer. I'll be 22 not old at all, but older than most who go to college right after highschool. 22 years old, with the Corps under my belt, the ability to buy alcohol, and horny 18 year old girls. Oh yeah good time to come.

That reminds me... I went back to school at 39 to study Spanish. Day one an incredibly hot chick in my class started hitting on me... so we started dating... she was an absolute goddess.

Going back to school is a good thing. :)

All the women in my class were homely.:(

I'm going back, perhaps as early as the fall.

I'm 27 hours away from my degree, and stopped because of money. One of the conditions of my new job is that I finish my degree in the next two years.

I am kinda looking forward to it...this gives me the needed incentive to get back in.

The only thing I'm not going to like is the student loans. Ugh.

excellent.....

Not until my kid no longer wants to spend time with me...

That should happen around 14-16 or so, and then I'll go back
and get my Masters in some I.T. mgmt program.

Took me 2.5 years to get the mba and 3 to get the MIS. I'm now looking @ online options for a PHD. My brain is bored with me. I'm not but my brain really is beginning to get annoyed. It keeps making me pick up old books on quanitative analysis and what not.

I went back to school and started a new career in my mid 30's. Started at 34, worked full time and went to school full time, graduated at 36 and it was

THE BEST DECISION I MADE IN MY LIFE

It is never too late to change. FYI - I am 42 now.

I want to go back to. Problem is I have no idea what I want to do either.

I have never been able to figure that out and would spend a life time trying. I just had to choose something. I narrowed it down to a job with security, ability to work anywhere, good pay. I chose nursing. I just hope that I like it somewhat.

Anyone here get their MBA with a BS undergrad? How long did it take you?
I know that some schools have excellerated programs and students can earn their MBA in a year. You have to just search around. I believe the ordinary time frame is 2 years.

School sucked. I will never go back. If I want to learn something new I will pick up a book and read about it. I HATED sitting in class. A D D here if you know what i mean.
