What is the period of time that hand foot and mouth disease is contagious for? My daughter has it and we are supposed to go to her grandma's for Thanksgiving...a trip she has really been looking forward to but I don't want to expose my 3 year old nephew to the virus.

i'm not a doctor but i play one on tv.Yes, HFMD is moderately contagious. Infection is spread from person to person by direct contact with nose and throat discharges or the stool of infected persons. A person is most contagious during the first week of the illness. HFMD is not
transmitted to or from pets or other animals.

She is 9 so as long as she doesn't snot, spit or poop on him we should be good to go then.....I think she can manage that.
Thanks
