I'm thinking about getting into some fighting classes and don't know what to take. The whole point of it is simply to become a more skilled fighter. I'm thinking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but I haven't ruled out Muay Thai or Aikido either. Opinions please.

ive heard good things about bjj and mu thai

mixed things about akido....some classes are good, some are overly spiritual

i dont think there is much striking in bjj though

I train muay thai. Training is not fun. It hurts.

Many argue grappling styles are the ultimate for fighting technique. I just don't enjoy so much to be tangled up with other guys.

I took TKD for a while. It's good excercise, but at some point it loses practicality. I recommend any grappling or street self defense dicipline. You don't need to do spinning wheel kicks to neutralize an opponent.

used to take tae kwon do and ishinryu karate. quit though and IMO there are not as effective as Aikido, Kempo, and Jujistsu. im considering studying Brazilian Jujitsu as well bro. studying in a school here in Newark run by the Gracie's. i was thinking of taking both aikido and jujitsu but think the two fighting styles will confuse me and compete with each other, although i do know a guy that took up both when i was bouncing. he wasn't big for shit (150-160 pounds at 5'11) pounds but damn he could take motherfuckers down.

its all fighting

thai boxing is good for learning strikes, any jujitsu is good for grappling. work out with as many different styles as possible. if all you train with is jujitsu guys for 5 years, i guarantee the first time you fight a wrestler he will wax your ass. most people train either or. train with both then beat the wrestlers with jujitsu and beat the jujitsu guys with wrestling. dont train with anyone that says their style is the "best." when you get in a fight its not BJJ vs. boxing, it YOU against HIM. grappling is fun because you can go all out sparring and not get hurt. learn from everyone.

watch pride fighting; vanderlai silva is a good exaple of someone who fights with everything. i swear that guy would hit you with his nuts if the best available shot!

oh yeah, dont forget to have fun too!:D

ive taken chinese kempo for 4 years and it was great. good street fighting techniques. also took up some hapkido, thats about it.

I took Shotokan karate when I was a little kid and then i took a little Aikido.

I was taking Capoera in college until I busted my head doing a backflip. I was a taking it to use on the dance floor to complement my breakdancing

Started with Kenpo when I was seven, then took Ju-jitsu, Wing-Chun, Aikido, and Muay Thai. It wasn't until I started training in NHB that I realized (with the exception of Thai) that 95% of what I learned over the last 20 years is impractical. If you want to learn to fight, go to an NHB/MMA gym and freestyle with the fighters there, learn everything you can, and develop a style which suits your strengths/weaknesses.

By the way, never go anywhere near any place that teaches kids or has a sign out front that advertises cardio kickboxing.

Which is pretty funny because I think his chute box teammate Pele did just that. It looked like he was humping Macao's head.

Muay Thai bro. Its a devasting technique that in seconds you finish the fight with brutal power!!!!:eek2: And Jujitsu is the complement to be an extreme fighter :vanp:
