Any home audio/video chatboards?

Are there any good audio/video chatboards. I want to start building a kickass home theater, and would like to learn some more about it all, if there is a chatboard I can visit, that would be great.

Or maybe if somebody here is really into this stuff, you could lemme know? I have speaker questions and such.

Well, i don't have a TON of money to spend on this, so I can't go really high end, and I have to collect this stuff over time.

I like the sony Wega tvs a lot. So i was looking at that. I was also looking at the sony str-de1075 reciever. I like the s-link idea. I don't know what to look for in a good surround sound speaker setup though.

If you are going for a sony wega I hope you have had a chance to compare it to other tvs. IMHO the picture is nothing extraordinary considering the price tag attached to it.

The best quality amp (for the price) is Yamaha hands down. It will have all the features you would ever need, will power ANY speaker you have hooked up to it (the amps will go down to 2ohms and lower on some amps), and is practically bulletproof.

Speaker is a little tougher because it depends alot on your taste and what is available in your area. Companies to look for are Paradigm (sp?), NHT (my favs), PSB, Klipsch, and Energy.

Also, when testing out speakers make sure you bring different styles of music that you are very familiar with. This will make it easier to discern what sounds the best to you.

It would also help if you had some kind of idea on what you are willing to spend on these pieces.

I bought a sony reciever with the sub out and s-link. best move yet. the sound is awsome when you use the fiber-optic cable from the dvd player into the reciever. My speaker choice was JBL. make sure you get a good center channel speaker and sub.


Rule of thumb............
Example: If you have $500 to spend on a system.
spend $400 on a reciever and only $100 on speakers......you will end up with only $100 worth of sound. Or $400 on speakers and $100 on a reciever......you still end up with $100 worth of sound.
So it's best to spend $250 on each. That way you have $250 worth of sound.
Did I just make sence?
For a good system, you'll have to be in the $1000 range.

Yeah, that all makes sense. I am trying to learn as much as I can before i put any money down

I have been building my system for appx a year now.
I have a Denon a/v receiver, Denon dvd/audio player,Yamaha cd player. I am using 9 gauge speaker for my Boston acoustics.
As far as Receivers go, Yamaha is nice but I prefer Denon. The Denon 4802 is awesome.
I say stay away from Best buy, Circuit city. The items the sell there are " midfi". Meaning its not the top of the product line.
Goto to your local High end dealer to listen to what ya want. Get their ideas. Then buy from the internet. Yes there can be risks in a purchase from the net. But if you buy from a reputable source you will be golden. I SAVED $900.00 on my receiver and $600.00 on my dvd player.
