Any FTP experts here???

I should preface this by saying I'm very much a novice at using FTP.

I'm trying to make some changes on the main page of a website, but I'm having troubles which I believe pertain to getting the modified folders to over-write the originals.

I moved the entire "web" folder from the FTP server to my local system to make the changes, but the only things I needed to modify were 2 images in the "image" folder and a little bit of text in the index.html file. I opened the "images" and the "index.html" files, made the necessary mods, highlighted the folders and uploaded them back to the host, but I never got a prompt asking me if I wanted to over-write the original folders, only a prompt asking me if I wanted to upload them. Shouldn't they over-write instead of just uploading?

Here's the problem....when I go directly into my FTP file folders on my computer (the ones I DL'ed from the host site after attempting the changes), they show the changes I've made, but the changes don't show up on the website itself. I've tried uploading the files at least 20 times, but I just can't get it to work.

The other strange thing is, when I look at the "image" and "index" files in the local folder on FTP, they both show 0 bites. WTF?

I've even tried using 2 different FTP programs, both with the same results. I've already called the website designer/builder, but he was no help.

Any ideas?

TIA.

JB;

I tried dl'ing/uploading te files individually, didn't work either.

van;

I uploaded as binary per the site builders instructions.

Shouldn't any changes I make show up immediately after loading to the host site? (again, I did refresh, also "ctrl+refresh"ed, dumped my cookies off my computer, you name it, I've tried it.)

I'd piss on a sparkplug at this point if I thought it'd help. :(

Delete the files you're trying to overwrite first or better yet rename them then upload the new ones. I've had trouble overwriting files on my isp's space. Your browser is possiby caching the old page; might want to your temp internet files.

Delete which ones? :confused:

Delete the files from the server before I upload the new modified ones, or delete them from the local folder and start over fresh?

I dumped all TIF's and cookies to see if that was the problem, but the website still shows up w/o the changes.

re: renaming the files...

Should I rename them in the local folder before I try to upload them back to the server?

*SIGH*......now I know why these web designers make mad $$$. :(

1. rename or move the ones on the server
2. try to view the page again and hopefully it won't work
3. upload the new files

Well, I screwed the pooch on this one...

SOMEHOW I managed to get the files buggered up and wound up with an administration page as the main page on the site! OOPS!! :o

........stupid multiple index files :mad:

Enniehoo, I called the site builder this morning and he fixed it.

Jerkbox, vansmack, u guys got special "K"...Dialtone, sorry bro, it says I gotta spread it around some more before I can hit you again. :( I guess it's the thought that counts, right?

Thanks for the help doodz, much appreciated.
