Any AAS users here suffer from Epilepsy? Friend is taking a drug called Carbamazepine

Any AAS users here suffer from Epilepsy? Friend is taking a drug called Carbamazepine and wants to start a test cycle but has concerns.

(not that it would matter but NO, this is not about myself, it is about a good friend)

I myself have done some research on the effects of taking this AED. (Anti-Epileptic Drug) Carbamazepine has a negative effect on Male testosterone production, as well as male sexual function etc. As you can imagine, there isn't really any info to be found on the net regarding men taking Carbamazepine while using steroids.

Maybe administering testosterone in the same manner as a proper cycle (500mg/week) would have a positive effect for those taking this drug for epilepsy?
Also wondering if this would be sufficient reason to receive a medical script for testosterone?

If there are any bros here that have additional info, expecially personal experience with using this drug, please chime in!

Cheers,

All i have experience in is Phenobarbital (i think thats how its spelled)

Your friend needs to take caution in using steroids, a mild steroid like anavar would be ideal, however i would like stats, age,Weight,Body fat, Training history.

Hey Radar,

Thanks for your input. My bro is 33 yrs old, 6'5, 225, about 10 - 12% BF, has been training on and off in the gym for the past 5 yrs. He plays rugby and is pretty serious about it too. He has for years and really wants to add some more mass to up his game. (His goal is to play pro)
He was diagnosed with epilepsy about 1 year ago.

Hope that's what you need, if not let me know and I will ask him what you need to know later today...

He did run a cycle about 5 yrs ago of sustanon, but he was inexperienced and ran it with no knowledge of aas at the time. I would actually really call this his 1st cycle if he goes forward with it. (his decision depending of course on what his research yields)

Your friend should see an endocrinologist. If his levels are low, he might get a script.

Regardless, your friend needs to talk with his physician before using AAS. Never keep your doc out of the loop, especially if you're taking a drug that is so heavily metabolized by the liver. The two could have devastating effects on your liver.

What good is a muscular body if you end up on a liver transplant list or dead? Have him talk to his doc.

StatDoc,

Very good point, sounds like he has some work ahead of him. He's smart enough that he won't go running gear blindly without looking at the risks involved for a guy in his situation. Just glad he mentioned to me about this drug he is using for his epilepsy. Once he has talked to his doc, I'll update both you and Radar with info.

Cheers guys!

I'm Glad he is going to see a Doc, that was the first thing that came to my mind when i woke up today,Running an anti-seizure Drug with Steroids then bloodwork is a "must".

Take care my friend!

Re: Any AAS users here suffer from Epilepsy? Friend is taking a drug called Carbamaze

I have had epileptic seizures. I am familiar with tegretol (carbamazepine) and I do not think there will be any interactions between the drugs. Doing so under the care of a physician goes without saying.
I know a wee bit about medications and I dont see an interaction potential and your correct, carbamazepine has a very minimal effect on natural testosterone but not enough to justify writing a script for it in nearly all circumstances based on that effect alone.
In a healthy normal male with proper bloodwork, I cannot foresee an issue that could be imagined between the two but keeping tabs on bloodwork throughout the cycle would be a very wise and prudent move, as is the case regardless of the carbamazepine medication. With the generalized anti-steroid argument aside, I dont foresee any reason why testosterone use would interfere with carbamazepine administration and human evidence of increase in seizures with testosterone administration is not proven from what I have seen to this point.
