How big do you have, and what did you pay. I have a 30 gallon but my blugill is outgrowing it. I was going to get a 50 gallon at petsmart for $100. I was wondering if this is a waste of time and just say fuck it and get like a 75 gallon +.

I got a 75 and a 30 gallon at my house. I think I paid around $350 for the 75 that includes the undergravel filter, the gravel, and the canister filter. I had Piranhas in it till they decided to kill each other. If I were you I would go with bigger tank, at least you won't have to worry about him outgrowing that too.

That is what i was thinking, he is getting pretty big cause he is an eating machine. He is way cooler than any pet store fish I have ever had, he is mean, kills shit, and takes food out of my hand.

I have heard that Bluegill are pretty bad ass in aquarium. I have no doubt that one on one, it would kick the shit outta one of the Piranahas that I had.

yup I have one a 40 gallon but with a Cuban Curly Tail inside (a reptile). I dunno for the price since my GF gave me the whole kit for christmas.

I had 4 of them and had to get rid of 3 of them cause the biggest in the tank always chased the others around. No matter how many you have they always have one dominate one that picks on the rest. He is getting pretty big now, he was like 3 inches when I got him and now he is like 6. I want him to hit like 10-11. He alreadt killed the crawdad i got for him so he would have a friend.

I made mine myswelf from oak and glass. It is about 120 gallons give or take 10g. I now have another 3ft built on topof it because Gomez is growing. Gomez is my 5 yo Iguana. He's a pretty big boy, my gf brings her dog over and it is scared to shit of it :)

Did you use plans to build the 120? if so where did you find them. I have always wanted to give that a try, I was thinking about either making a large one for fish, or for a Ball Python.

I don't know about that I had a piranha and a Jack Demsey in the same tank together. The piranaha was a little smaller and the Jack Demsey would chase him around all day. Well one day I came home and the JD was laying on the bottom with his belly missing.

I don't doubt they they are tuff, but the ones that I had were pretty timid. I just heard the bluegills are a lot more aggresive. Nothing against piranhas I thought they were very interesting. What kind did you have? I want to get some more one day but I want a tank big enough so that they can school (10-15 fish)

I've had them two different times the first time I had 4 and they lived for two years before they died when we had that ice storm that knocked power out for like 7 days here in MD several years ago. Then I had just that one in a 30 gal, I gave it away when I moved. Both times I had red bellied, that is really the only type I've ever seen in pet stores here. O yeah btw I had the first four in a 55 gal tank and they got about 6" and there was one that was dominant.

Nah man Black piranahas get alot bigger than red bellied but as far as I know red bellied are the most aggressive. I have a book here somewhere about all the different species of piranahas, I'll see if I can find it and see what it says.

No plans, I work as a tradesman to get myself through college so it was fairly easy for me. I can walk ya through it if ya like.

My bluegill is not a pussy like pirahnas, they always hide and only eat when the lights are off (atleast all the ones I have seen), my bluegill sees you walk into the room and he is up against the tank saying "feed me fucker". I bought some Rosey reds and threw them in there and he was attacking the bag before I could even pour them in the tank. Oh, i have had Jack dempseys, and they are pussies, my bluegill would rape them. I named him Bobafette.

I have a 200gal that is cycling right now with damsels. I am setting it up as a reef and have the live rock coming in this week. I got vho's on it and 400watt metal halides. I am currently using a Berlin pro xl protien skimmer that is very effective so far. the set up cost a small fortune but it is the show piece of the house.
I think I am going to house catalaphyllias, euphyllias, and some other hard branching corals.

bluegills are not aquarium fish. you eat them.

the rule is, buy the biggest tank you afford. in the end, you will be happier.

I have heard that about black ones too, but I have never seen one. In fact, some people doubt that they exist at all- they may just be older red bellys or whites. I had a single white which was pretty agressive but the blacks are supposed to be crazy.

ORGANON CANON- if you got time pleae hit me with an e-mail about building one [email protected] or an IM, I won't be trying it till I graduate in december but I would like to know what materials that I would need. Thanks.

It really is pretty basic work. I'll need you to tell me somewhat of an idea of what your going for. Do you want a basic rectangle tank? I would go for a more elaborite design since it will only cost for supplies. My tank would rund around 2-3 grand in a store and I paid about $800 in total. Let me know what you want first like I said, but basically you are lookin at glass definitly, how much depends on the size and dimensions. Also whatever type of material you would like to use for framework, be it steel, titanium, etc. Other than that you only need some aquatic cocking to seal the breaches.

I would like to start out with the basic rectangle design, just to make things easier. I would like to go between 125-150 gallons. Where would be a good place to buy the glass and the cocking?
Thanks for the help.

I got my 200gal for a $650 in perfect shape from a store owner who was getting out of selling corals (it was his main display tank). Anyway, it was 8 months old and had no marks or scratches so I made an offer. It is big enough for what I need, but a 125 is big enough for most people. It sure as hell would be alot easier to move.

Nice setup you have there. You're gonna love the metal halides....waaaay more effective than florescents. And that protein skimmer is gonna pay for it's self many times over....Can I ask where you bought the live rock?
