Another tire question for the strongmen

well i found otu the weight of my tire. since it is brand new i emailed michelin and they told me the weight is 426.32 pounds. now my question is hwo much are u really deadlifting, half the weight of the tire more or less. i was wondering becasue i want to go get another tire even if i cant lift it i wanna work up to it. i was thinking of say a 550-600. or somethin liek a 23.5-25 16 ply. right now i can deadlift 405. so how much would i need to be looking at to get that 600 pounder movin. or am i totally off track with this deadlift number coralation to getting the tire off the ground???

I weigh 127lbs and deadlift 295 (3-reps), 315 and 340lbs.

And able to flip a 400lb tire for 100ft at a decent clip.

I really don't like to refer to flipping a tire as deadlifting. It's a wee bit different than that. I believe it's more of a cross between a clean and a dead. Reason I throw in "clean" is that if you can clean or explode that tire up, the added momentum will make that tire land a bit more ahead of you; therefore, less time spent flipping it.

Understand that the weight of a tire is deceiving. I know of 475lb tires that are a bear to move in comparison to some 500 or even 600lb tires. However, I would say if you're able to pull 405, the 426lb tire shouldn't be a problem (based on weights and not having seen or dealt with this tire). You would want to give the 550lb tire a feel; but would think that you should work with that 426 for a bit before and work your way up to the 550 or 600.

oh yeah sorry i have the 426 and have been throwin it around after about 20 flips i get pretty winded and beat. every week i get faster and better as my form improves. and yes i agree it is more of an explosive move. i trow the tire up and then catch it basically imagine it as a clean. i then front squat it and then push it over kinda. i will have vids up soon enough. i am working on getting my site going. it jsut sems funny cause when i was at the tire yard i couldnt even get the 23.5 tire off the ground or maybe that was the 26.5 i gotta go back lol. i just dint want to get way to heavy a tire and have it taking up space for a long time so i wanted some opinoins u know what i mean.

Brian is right. Technique is the key.

I deadlift 500lbs, and the 550lbs tire at Bluegrass was pretty easy as long as my technique was right. It was tough as soon as my technique failed.

Of course, it was my first time flipping a tire, too.....;)

i cant deadlift but 320 and i can flip a 675lb tire a few times so im sure u can. i know what ya mean , they sent me home w/tire and said it was only one size larger than the 550lb one and it shouldnt weight much more. now i have a 800lb yard ornament;)

I don't use my back hardly at all to flip the tire...I drive fwd with my legs, shoulders, and I POP my hips to pop the tire up...
