Another Fun Sunday, 3-31-02

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
Whew...had a good one. Started out in the gym with a few new ideas. I had heard that doing good mornings from a bar height that was the same as your shoulder height when you deadlift...is a very good practice. There should be a good carry over as far as strength building...who knows...just a thought.

Bottom Position Good Mornings (conventional narrow stance)
several warm-ups
205 x 3
275 x 3
325 x 3
375 x 3 PR with this stance

High Bar Squats (full)
227 x 10

Still Legged Deadlifts
205 x 3
275 x 3
325 x 3

Chin Holds 2" bar for time
BW x 60 sec
BW x 40 sec
BW x 40 sec (reverse grip)

Farmers Walk (new implement made by my buddy Bover)
80's x 150 ft
130 x 150 ft
130 x 100ft with 4 turns

Tire Flip (working on technique this week)
several warm up singles
3 light and easy flips
several partials with the heavy tire
1 rep with the heavy tire

Log Press
8 sets of 3 reps, increasing weight, short rest, full clean and press on first 4 sets only
140, 151, 162, 173, 184, 190, 201, 212 (my log feels about 20lbs heavier at least than most logs)

Yoke Walk
345 x 150 feet (14.7 sec)
345 x 175 feet with one turn

Hussefeld Stones
150 x 100ft with one turn
155 x 300ft with one turn

Light Ab pull downs

Saxon Side Bends
11's x 6 reps per side

Well...feeling pretty tired from the day...we decided to superset this workout with some fork lifting at Ryans. We had to do several breathing reps on that third steak, the buffet, and the cake/pie bar...whew...it was tough. We decided to come home and get some rest and relaxation this evening...a bit of studying, and a very long night of sleep.

For next week...we plan on doing some more grip and farmers walk work, heavy tire work, increasing the weight on the yoke walk, and doing a hussefeld stone relay. We hope to have something left for some atlas stone work too. Going to make the transition from speed/technique/light training to a much heavier event day as STL approaches.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Dont know much about this strongman type training, but that sure is a big old tire you were throwing around! Good shit bro! Good to see you guys post photos on this board. Awesome!:D

"Any thoughts or suggestions?"

You seem to know what you're doing, bro. What, specifically, is your training objective?

Aight B!

I see you have switched to new shoes for the tire flip. Good idea. How's your heel?

Way to include Saxons in there too!

Keep it up,

JC

Glad to see that you changed shoes during your tire flip. You look to me like you had a great workout! You keep getting stronger and stronger!!! :)

That is the link to my next contest that I am currently training for. I will be in the 300lb weight class too.

My goal is basically to start with higher volume and lower weights at the moment and pick up the weight as the contest gets closer. I have a lot of base strength but I am working on my technique on every events (yoke, tire, log...etc...).

My foot feels a lot better too. I think that the change in shoes may have helped. I also changed my technique a bit.

Go to the contest man. If you qualify for the NASM in Sept/October in STL...I'll see you there. How old are you again? It should be NASS sactioned which means that there will be a teen division.

If you need any help/advice...just email anytime.

I'm 22. My buddy is 21. He competed in the qualifiers, weighed in at 220ish and dominated his class. He's a freak and he hasn't trained the events much at all. Just raw strength.

I only weigh 150 right now. They don't have many competitors in the light weight class though(up to 175 lbs), so I could get in the finl if I wanted. Thing is I haven't had much training with this at all, except farmers walks and I messed around with an atlas stone once. PLus I have at least 3 meets this year and I don't want this to take away rom my pogres. I don't know.

Compete for fun man...just go out there and compete for fun.

b fold, great job.. damn that tire is big.. how much does it weigh?

i see you implemented the saxon side bends into your routine,... i dont know if its just for me, but they are hard as hell even with a few lbs.

The new weigth of that tire is 1170...so I figure that the used weight is just about 1,000. Who knows...it may be 900-1050...I have no idea. It is A LOT heavier than my 600lber as well as the 800lb tire I used in Boston. I flipped the 800 tire 10-12 times in Boston fairly easy...I am not for sure if I can flip this heavy tire more than 2x in a row...I've yet to flip it more than once.

There are usually three of us training and if it is not already standing up from the last flip...we all stand it up together. We then roll it back by the barn and lay it back down.

Teamwork

I'll try to have one soon for you hun.

:D

Spare Tire...

I have a big tire around my middle. Damn thing looks like it would be hard as Hell to flip.

I am the only one of the three of my event partners that can get it past their knees. My buddy can easily deadlift 500lbs...and has a very hard time getting it more than a foot. He is 6'2", like me, and height helps with leverage I think.

I pray a lot before I do the tire...but not for sure God listens when earth mover tires and atlas stones are involved :) lol...
