it seems a bit schemy to me IMO
Are you verified through paypal? Getting verified is easy. Paypal will deposit a couple of cents in your checking account and you have to find out how much they deposited and when they deposited it and then relay that information to Paypal. After that, you shouldn't have any problems and sellers love to deal with verified paypal customers.
There is a lot of scamming going on on eBay and they seem to be revamping how things are done there and trying to weed out the scammers which is impossible.
I know a lot of sellers are being asked real personal information to verify who they are and some sellers are leaving eBay for that reason.
I have never been asked for my credit card number though and I would not provide that sensitive info for anyone.
Anytime you contact an eBay member always use the links eBay provides you to contact them. Even if you get an email from the seller and they did not go through Ebay to contact you, I would ask them to contact you through eBay's email system for security purposes. They shouldn't mind doing that.
One of the scams on eBay right now is scammers are contacting members for "second chance offers". Which they will say the winner did not want the item and they are offering it to you for your final bid and they ask you send the money by wire to another country. Don't fall for it.
Some sellers have more than one item of the same thing and they will contact losing bidders(if their bid is high enough) and sell them the item and that is legitimate as long as they make a "Buy It Now" auction that should run for about 24-48 hours that is only accessible by you.
Just remember, always go through eBay when contacting anyone on eBay. If you have an email in your regular email, there should be a copy in your eBay account. Just go to "My Ebay" at the top of any eBay page and sign in. If the email is not in there under "messages" then be very careful on how you respond.
