Andre "Tilt" Henry

I started dieting in September of last year at a weight of 491 lbs.
In that 7months, I have dropped down to 360lbs (last Friday weigh-in).

I hired contest prep coach, Jason "Scooby" Theobald for the entire year (and I plan to keep him on next year) and he handles my entire diet and cardio components.

I handle my own weight training portion and train similar to a Jay Cutler/Phil Heath style (i.e. lots of volume, NOT going to failure on most sets). I feel that all my years of heavy powerlifting built a strong, muscular base and now I just need to refine it. But probably the biggest difference in my current training style is that I take NO MORE than 60 second rests in between sets, even on squats and deadlifts (which I typically always perform last when I do them).

That's great! Still HUGE! lol. Any plans to compete in BBing?

I don't know. Been getting asked that a lot recently, which I guess means I don't look like a complete pile of shit, lol.

I'll see...have to see how the skin tightens up and how my symmetry looks or if I even have an aethestically pleasing physique (not that that matter much nowadays anyways!)

whats the idea behind doing em last if I may ask?

All those years of powerlifting made me especially strong at those lifts (squats/deadlifts).

Now that I could care less what I lift and am only concerned with maximally stimulating my target muscle via other exercises that I feel are just as valuable, e.g. leg extensions, leg press, hack squats and THEN squats, causes me to 1. use much less weight to get the same job done than if I were to squat first, and 2. It is much easier on my joints to do 16 sets of other quad exercises and then 225lbs on the squat FEELS heavy and does the job, rather than starting with squats and having to use 4-500 pounds to get a similar result.

I know those are pussy weights, but honestly I don't care as I like what I'm seeing in the mirror and how I'm feeling. Plus I'm dieting on <70g carbs daily plus a lot of cardio, so once we get me to my target weight and can increase cals slightly and decrease cardio to a maintence level, I'm sure that some of my strength will be back. But honestly, I'm looking for longevity in this game and not trying to be in a wheel chair at 35 (or worse...)

its funny you say it...and I asked because I decided to do squats and deads last today

not even sure why I got it into my head other than I had a running mantra in my head all day that went something like 'leg press, leg press, leg press"

thank you for the explanation

No problem.

I'm not saying that it's completely unscientific, but I believe it is moreso the BB industry/magazines that have brainwashed us into believing that we have to do our strong/compound movement first in order to get the most benefit for it. I'm not saying that this is wrong, but there certainly is a time and a place for it, and sometimes in order to progress one must put aside tradition and dogma.

Ok, enough of that, I must be tired cuz I'm babbling. Good night Elite, and thanks for making a disparaging thread about me. It's people like you that helped to kick me in the ass & make some changes for myself.

Looks like the changes are good and you're happy and feeling healthy. Glad you came back by. Thanks for the updates.

I do my squats and deads last too. DC Training.
