a.) A supervisor issued the following announcment:
"effective immediatly the charge for copying services in Repro will be raised 1/2 to 2 cents each." Receivers scratched their heads.

b.) The pilot of a military airplane about to land decided that the runway was to short. He Shouted to his engineer, "takeoff power!" The engineer turned of the engines; the plane crashed.

This is part of an assignment I had. Very dumb stuff.

-The first one I said the supivisor said effective immediatly and the said well be raised. He should have said "As of now the charge for copying service has been raised by a 50% to a new price of 2 cents each.

-The second I said the pilot yelled "takeoff Power" when he should have told the engineer to turn on the power for takeoff.

ok this question has fucked me up.

The following sign in English appeared in an Austrian hotel that catered to skiers: "Not to perambulate the corridors in the hours of repose in the boots of ascension."

no clue what that means anyways. isn't ascension a catholic holiday, which is a holiday for a certain amount of days after easter?

Sounds to me like they're saying that you shouldn't walk around in the hallway in your clunky-ass ski boots when people are trying to sleep.

Don't walk through the halls wearing ski boots (the 'ascension' thing doesn't quite track for me, but I don't know what other kind of boots would be relevant) during sleeping hours.

Well, you have to ascend a slope to ski down it. That's the only connection I could think of.

sounds good so the sign is trying to say don't walk in the halls with your boots and it used a poor choice of wording with the misuse of the word ascension...

whats repose? sleep?

good thinking boss. I just put miss use of the word ascension as of went wrong in the communication.

The class is basically going over communication problems right now. An example from the class was that in France I beleive Pepper meant Prostitute and when dr. pepper soda advertised there they didn't research first and offended many people.

I have another one about peoples letters for a job offering and have to state what went wrong also.

Business Communication is a class you will use for many years to come.

Trust me on this one.

I hear ya on that X. I'm only three days into the class but the material I reviewed in the book, by looking at the Syllabus seems extremely important info.

Today in the class we were discussing the differences in Woman and Male communication.

Woman add details and men just want the big picture. Woman use the word "we" Men use the word "I" ect....

there were others but all in a general saying that doesn't go for all men and woman.

Anyways I agree 150% on this. I knew already in everyday life about this but then when I came on here today I read a post by MrsPuddles. I noticed she also uses the word "we".

In class the teacher mentioned the book Men are from Mars Woman are from Venus (or something?)

The subject seems pretty interesting, so I might check it out some more.

*is it just me or does it seem as though he's not grasping the practicum?*

ascension was not misused. To wit:

ascension: the act or process of ascending

ascending: intransitive senses-- 1 a : to move upward b : to slope upward 2 a : to rise from a lower level or degree b : to go back in time or in order of genealogical succession
transitive senses-- 1 : to go or move up <ascend a staircase> 2 : to succeed to : OCCUPY <ascend the throne>

Ascension Day: the Thursday 40 days after Easter observed in commemoration of Christ's ascension into Heaven

I'm just wondering why you would call ski boots "boots of ascension". It would seem more like you would call them "boots of descension" if you're going to use that kind of wording in the first place because the only reason you need ski boots is to wear skis, and the only reason you wear skis is to ski down a hill. Even on a ski lift, you're still wearing your skis.
