An Apple a day......?

I read an article where it stated that eating apples can block the body's ability to absorb protien......anyone know if this is true or not? i must admit, it's the first time i've heard of this!

RE; APPLES

I know....that's what i thought!!

A guy was discussing AB routines in a Martial Arts mag and actually wrote that about apples!

Depending on how it was worded, it may be correct. Foods like apples, grapefruits, oats, other whole grains, etc...slow digestion. So if it was in reference to a post-workout protein shake, which you would want to absporb quickly, then drinking it immediately after a meal containing those foods could techinically decrease absorption, or at the very least delay it.

Also, the pectin in apples increase and slow glucose release and absorption. Again, defeating the purpose of post workout nutrition.

I think eating an apple in the morning is good for you. They are a good source of fiber, and fruit for breakfast are great.

Worded thus; RE:Abs. " Diet...there's no getting away from it. You're going to have to get used to eating lots of brown rice. Plenty of veggies and fruits too. Apples are good because they block fat absortion, unfortunately, they also block protien absortion too. Not ideal if you want to retain muscle"

I love apple and eat them for fibre. Thanks for the heads up tho', i'll know not to eat one before a protien shake.
