Amp Question

Ok, my question isn't how to open one. I know, file it down and pop it off with a pen cap. I've done it and it works great. My question is about bits of broken glass falling into or even aroud the top of the amp. I'm sorry if this has been talked about before a million times. I've been looking for the answer about this, but nobody seems to be talking about it. The thought of Bits of Glass deep in my muscle tissue has me a bit concerned. Thanks for any info.

Interesting question. Never noticed a problem with it myself. I use a three-edged taper file and I use one of the pointed ^ edges. Light filing a couple of times around, clean amp surface with a cotton ball and alcohol and I get a nice clean break every time.

I know this sounds odd but if the glass bit is clean and it's small enough to go up into the pin it's not a problem. The glass is nonreactive so you won't get any infection from it. The worse that can happen is your body will, over time, move it to the surface and you will get what looks like a pimple but when you pop it a small bit of glass will come out.

in many, many years of using amps i have never had issue with broken glass. most amps done seem to shatter in fine enough particle to be sucked up by pin.

I aways use tape, which saved me a few times when the amp broke.

the only time i used amps was some schering turks from our buddy, and i never even had to file them, they come prescored on one side, line it up with the purple dot and snap it open, i hold the amp inside a washcloth and snap it that way, my hand never touches the glass.. .never had a problem with them.
