Am I Destroyed???

Guys,

About a month ago I was deadlifting fairly heavy and on one rep leaned forward just a little too much and felt the right side of my back strain. So sore I couldn't unrack the bar or tie my shoes for about two days. Tried deadlifting the next week and it wasn't that it hurt but that I HAD NO LOWER BACK STRENGTH. Just couldn't move the bar - felt paralyzed. Was forced to do partials from knee height. That was the last time that i deadlifted, but I have continued to squat heavy with a belt each week with lower back weakness and soreness the days following.

With that said, I leaned over to pick up my piece of trash in the yard yesterday and when I stood up I wanted to scream. I couldn't walk for the rest of the day as I had pain for my right side lower back down to my right calf. Each step was agony. I also have a hard bump on the right side of my lower back with local pain to the touch. Today I am completely sore and ache, but have an easier time walking. I know I should probably never deadlift again and not sqaut for a while, but is it advisable to train my upper body?

Thanks :nopity:

i think you should go see a doctor, sounds like you pinched a nerve, not much you can do but rest for a bit........but the worse thing u can do is not train your lower back after you recover.

Sounds like a disc problem that is pushing against your sciatic nerve, causing the pain you are describing.

Most likely you will have to get an MRI to determine if the disc is herniated, bulging, or you might have just irritated the nerve itself without any disc damage.

Yeah - and maybe lay off all the lifting for a month or so. Pretty much everything you do inthe gym taxes your back in some way so just lay off if for a month - because the body does an excellent job of healing itself if you just let it.

I was thinking no gym for 10 days and no squats, deads, standing military, etc for a month. I can't let myself atrophy for a month!

Hey bro.. How r you doin ? I'm interested as I've got herniated disc myself (BTW: don't let others confuse you. Herniated, Bulging, Ruptured all do mean the same condition) I've ruptured (herniated) my disc between S1-L5 more than 2 months ago and have not yet recovered. Just thinking about squats or deads (oohh.. i love deadlifts) makes me feel pain :( Right now the pain is actually felt in the sacruilliac and ocassional electric pinpointed nerve pain on left quad.

How are you doin bro?
