Almost died today...

...so I'm in the elevator going to the 16th floor with a bunch of people in a meeting. The elevator stops at the 14th floor and goes dark. Then it falls about a foot.

Finally, the elevator drops to the 13th floor and the door opens. Suffice it to say, everyone left the elevator. I couldn't stop myself from laughing. They all thought I was crazy after that experience.

we used to get stuck in our shitty college dorm elevators at least twice a week. always in between floors too. I have become a master of pulling open elevator doors from the inside and crawling out.

My cousin's building has the roughest elevator ever, you have to bend your knees slightly when you're going down, because at the ground floor it lands hard, hurts if you don't.

Wouldn't worry me.

I know how the braking system works on an elevator. Even if you cut the cables, you'd have a better chance of dying crossing the street. It's a similar system as the seatbelt pendulum. If it falls at a fast rate of speed the brakes are engaged whether there is power/cables/anything.

You'd have to manually disengage the brakes, THEN cut the cables in order for the thing to hit the bottom. Mr. Otis himself proved this again and again with himself as the subject.

All you did was get the shit scared out of you. You weren't even close to dying.

But I'm glad you're O.K.!
