alcohol and weightlifting

afaik it reduces the rate at which you can put on muscle for up to 24 hours (maybe partially because it gets processed before everything else, so you liver has to burn it off first before it can process proteins?). Don't know if it actually breaks it down.

so would regularly chewing gum with sugar alcohol be terrible to do if ur trying to put on muscle, or is that different than the kind that is bad for putting on muscle

Dude,

I don't think that the miniscule amount of sugal alcohols in some chewing gums would affect the rate at which you build muscle. Ethyl alcohol and sugar alcohols are two different animals.

If you consume ethyl alcohol, your body will use it for fuel before anything else, which is why so many peeps who drink and get the munchies are fat.

I have never read any studies that show that sugar alcohols affect carbohydrate metabolism, or protein synthesis.

it'll break you down alright. Muscles and bones when that 300lb. barbell smashes that ribcage falling on you because you're skunk drunk!
 
i read a study saying it decreased protein synthesis by about half

BUT for a lot of guys, having sex with fatties is great exercise, so it evens out ;)
 
The only thing I will say in this regard is that it sucks donkey balls to sweat Jose Cuervo the next day after a 2-fers Margaritas the night before.

Damn straight. Nothin' compares to ridingout a tequilla night.
 
I found that aslong as I eat descent I can drink wahtever the hell I want and get in good shape. I get sloshed atleast 2x/week year round. who knows though maybe i would be jacked if I didnt drink.
