Alcahol and R-ALA!

I posted a similar thread on the Anabolics board a week or so ago but thought I would see if you guys could muster some more opinions. I take R-ALA (Glucorell) with my meals at the moment but would there be any advantage to taking it with alcahol, for example if you were going to a a party or two over the holidays and planning to drink a few beers and such like. I figured it would probably help because beer=carbs=cals. Anybody got an opinion?

you might want to try it and let us know.... it might make you sick though...

alchohol has to be burnt before the carbs are so i am not sure what affect that will have on the ala timing....

I used to take ala w/ alcoholic drinks it actually slowed my buzz, go figure. Lack of insulin probably decreases the time it takes the alcohol to get stored in teh liver

I don't think it will make much difference in terms of glycemic impact or insulin independant glucose uptake, but it is still a good idea since the r-ALA protects the liver to some extent. Maybe this is why it slows ZKaudio's buzz, and seems to reduce hangovers...but alcohol can't be stored (in the liver or anywhere else for that matter). Only the carbs, fats and proteins can be stored.

err... yes it can.. though alcohol is used innefficiently it still can be stored (or at the very least cause other excess cals to be stored) and it is rarely just alcohol that is consumed, their are often accompanying carbs and fats in various alcoholic drinks.

note that alcohol causes a release of glycogen, increasing blood sugar, which may lead to a rise in blood insulin. glucorell MAY help with this (not entirely clear)...

alcohol also decreases insulin sensitivity, at least in some areas (interperitoneal seems to be one of them.. perhaps a local effect)- glucorell will help with this (if not immeadiately..over the long term)

also there is a link between alcohol and upregulation of aromatase (though that is another issue)
