ALA and Bulking

We all have heard from numerous people that are having tremendous results while cutting useing ALA, but what about
bulking? Let's hear from some bro's who have been useing ALA
while bulking.

Excellent for both bulking and cutting. It acts as a nutrition repartitioning agent which is great for all of the extra calories you are taking in while bulking.

nautica- I understand who ALA works, I just want to hear some
results from a few bulking bros useing it.

I JUST started taking ALA 2 days ago and obviously it's too early to see its effects. One complaint; I get such raging pumps in the gym after my first set that i'm almost too beat to do the rest of my lifts for that body part. I'm taking about 600mg 3 x/day. Has anyone else experienced this?
 
Last monday I started taking 500mg of ALA and 2g of creatine with grape juice before each meal. I've gained 7 pounds in a week. I've never had creatine work this good by itself. Strength is great, and this is all about 3 weeks after my first cycle. Its nice to make natural gains too! Oh yeah I get those pumps pretty good too, but not like on Dbol!
 
I've had good results

I'm close to a month into a bulk cycle, and I'm using Fina and between 800-1000mg of ALA/day. Before I started using 500mg's of ala 1 hr. before my w/o, my pumps were good from the fina, but, w/ the ALA they are so strong that I have to wait almost twice as long between sets cuz the pump is to the point of pain. And, on biceps day, my forearms feel like they are gonna rip through my skin! I'm up 10-12 lb's, and my bf% is steady(I was @ a low bf when I started)
 
Well Ive got question about ALA. When dieting and using ALA Ive heard of people taking in up to 300 carbs or more a day and still losing fat. My question is what happens to all of these carbs??? I know they are not stored as fat because the ALA controls the insulin from the carbs but does the body actually use the carbs like it should or what??? Im a little confused on how this works. Also, when dieting and using ALA is better to take in really low carbs and use low dose ALA just before the meals you eat carbs in or is it best to eat more carbs and take in more ALA??? Some people have told me not to cut my carbs as low as you normally would if taking ALA. I was just wondering if anyone could clear this up for me??? Also, if you were to take in more carbs and more ALA do you feel full or does the way ALA messes with your insulin and stuff make you feel hungry??? ONe more and Ill stop lol, does ALA help spare muscle when dieting??? Sorry for all the questions but Im trying to decide what to do when I use ALA to diet.

Here is what I understand. ALA allows your body to store up to 40% more glycogen, 1g glycogen = 1g carbs, so basically means you will be storing a lot of those extra carbs which leads to the more fuller feeling, I assume. I would be careful of real low carb and ALA, as the real ALA is useful in fat loss is because it transports more glycogen to the muscles than normal creating ketosis when there may not have been ketosis before (say you can eat 25g of carbs and be in ketosis w/o ala, w/ala you can take in say 35 just for example). If you take too much ALA and not enough carbs you will become hyperglycemic (not permanently but at that time, until you take in some carbs), and feel really dizzy and out of it. Happened to me, I took 600mg in the morning (which you should not do because from what I've been told in the morning it's easier to become hyperglycemic), and I felt really dizzy like I was going to pass out in class. Then I had an apple juice and felt much better. So just use your head and listen to your body and keep some apple juice close by just in case you get too dizzy.
 
I've been taking 4 grams per day for a few months now..


The secret is.. (when using it for bulking), you only take it in large doses WITH large amounts of carbs, or else it is pointless. It basically shuttles more glycogen to your muscles, and as we all know 1g carbs takes 4g water with it. This kinda bloats me up pretty good, because I am holding 40% more intramuscular water as well as intramuscular glycogen.

I'll take 1,200mg with a 86 carb NLarge2 shake (with 4 hydroxycut) 1.25 hours before my workout, and I am a psychopath in the gym. Strength is way up from physical mechanical advantage from holding more water, and endurance is up because of increased glycogen stores. I am able to complete my workouts with high intensity without falling off at the end.

I'd say overall its effects are very similar to creatine in terms of the strength gains from water retention, and endurance from increased source of energy. It's a little better though because I feel it keeps the carbs busy..idle hands do the devils work :).
