After Madcow's 5X5??

big perm

Active member
I'm coming up on the end of my first run of Madcow's version of the 5X5, with the alternate deload/intensity phase. I've gotten great results thus far, but in planning what to do after I've come up with a question.

Would it be more beneficial to:

(A) run another 9 weeks of the Madcow 5X5 program (maybe this time doing the 3X3 and 1X3, instead of the alternate deload/intensity)

(B) start a HST run, or

(C) does it not matter which one I do?

Ultimately, I think whichever one I do first I'll do the other after that one....but I want your opinion if one would be better to run after my first go of the 5X5.

Thanks in advance!

I'd try it again w/ the intensity phase at the end particularly if you like to lift heavy. I LOVED pulling heavy triples every week, and I found that I grew the most during that phase (my cals were higher then too). Plus you'l likely set teh weights better and have a better run anyway- my current training is a variation of the 5x5 and setting my weights better seems to be paying off quite nicely.

Yeah, if you did the 5x5 once already why not do it again with better wieght selection. My first 5x5 run my wieght selection was shit. After that try HST. I love them both.

BTW nice location guinness. LOL.

HST is quite a bit different than madcows 5x5. some things are still there of course. HST is more about very frequent submaximal lifting, with the big load coming in the last 2-4 weeks of the program, whereas madcows has the big load in weeks 3-4 and 9ish depending. both programs utilize proggressive overload and deconditioning, so either way, you can't really go wrong.
