Advice on Supervisor

So want to get some feed back on what i did already and also what, if anything I should do next. I work for a company and have been there top producer for 4 or 5 years now. I have basically one supervisior and that is due to he has more senority than I. Here is what happened. (Long story short) My supervisior told me to basically draft up a letter. The letter didnt say anything against policy but yet when the president recieved it he took it different than how it was intended. There was a meeting over said letter and after discussion he addressed that he did not like how i was worded nor did her ever want somethin like it to happen again or it would be taken as insubordination. IN this meeting was several workers, myself, my supervisior, the director and finally the Pres. During the whole dont let it happen part my boss never stood up and said that I was only following his instruction. This is what I have already done. 1) I didnt rat out my supervisior because I am not a rat. I believe you get what is comeing to you when your a snake. After the meeting when my boss tried to walk up to me and talk about it I told him we had nothing to talk about. That one part of being a leader was having to accept the responsibility of the decisions you make and that by him leaving me hanging out to dry he lost all my respect and that he didnt deserve to be anyones leader. He said he didnt feel the ned to say anything because the President wasnt upset and that nothing would be done this time. I dont think that should have mattered because it is a bad mark on me..not offically but in the back of their mind I am sure. Now I am trying to decide if I am going to confront him in front in a meeting with the president and director (open door policy) or do I just sit back. Any input?....
Sorry for the long post.

When someone's your BOSS and your JOB is on the line - being a rat has nothing to do with it. You have to stand up for yourself when people are fucking with you. Otherwise you're a big fat pussy who deserve what your loser boss is doing to you.

you should've brought it up in the meeting. you are talking about your livelihood here. why would you take a fall for your boss when your boss wouldn't take one for you? especially when if anyone had to take a fall it was him.

yeah....I have never had anything like this happen before and to be honest I was surprised that he never said anything. I was waiting for him to step up and then next thing the meeting was over. I have been in this line of work for 13 years....I guess I will see how tomorrow goes. The good thing is there is no trouble or problem. I forgot to add that I was outside as the President left and he walked over to me (which was on the other side of the parking lot so he wanted to speak with me in private) and shook my hand and told me that i was fine as he winked...then he thanked me for all the good work and to keep it up. At least that made it a little better.

I hate bosses like that. The same kind of person who sucks up to people.

i agree with what you did actually; ratting out your boss would've shown poor character to the prez and director, and would have made an enemy of your boss.

what i would do is ask your boss if he would voluntarily talk to the prez and accept partial responsibility, but say that it was due to miscommunication between him and you.

if he won't do that for you, than next time feel free to fuck him over.

i wonder what was in the letter that caused all the fuss? and why your supervisor would ask you to write the letter?

FYI, when you draft letters for somebody else, you include this at the bottom:

lander2312 for supervisor's name here

and then your supervisor signs it.

or
lander2312
pp supervisor's name here

but that is more if you're a secretary I believe

Ya seriously.

Otherwise if he doesn't then I strongly recommend rampaging through the office in a whirlwind of ultra violence & streams of gasoline before immolating yourself (Thich Quang Đuc style for added effect of course) & fellow co-workers as a lesson to nasty supervisors the world over!!1

It's not being a rat. You did the right thing by waiting for him to have a chance to absolve you of the responsibility or be partially accountable. But he basically threw you under the bus. At that point, he's a dickhead.

He was too chickenshit to stand up for you. Not only that, he was CLEARLY trying to sidestep that it came from him. no doubt about it

All bets are off. you confront the president.

I concur.
At least the pres is OK.

HAve an update....So while at work today the financial director calls me. She is in same office area as the president and has been with him for over 20years. Anyway she said that they were talking about how red i was turning and tht they noticed how I kept looking at my boos waiting for him to say something. The president was talking to her and saying thsat he couldnt help but feel that there was more to the story. She told him that she felt like I was doing what I was told. SO now the higher ups all know that he is a chickenshit piss poor excuse for a supervisor and that I am stand up enough guy to not set someone out and do my job. So this might have turned out good for me after all.

Well, you missed your chance to bring it up in the meeting. Shitty, but it's over now. I wouldn't bring it up again.

The pres obviously knows you're a good bro and probably understands you were "just following orders" based on the wink.

I'd leave it alone but next time be more assertive for yourself in the moment.

Really, part of everyone's job is to make their boss look good. To an extent. Make them look good but don't allow yourself to get thrown under the bus with the big dogs.

that's great. things worked out. and by not throwing him under the bus right away you showed character. Now you don't even have to go out of your way to address the issue.

those type of things ultimately always come to the surface. fortunately it was sooner than later in this instance
