Anyone here made anything interesting in the last year or so? Have you seen a piece of homemade equipment made by someone else that was interesting? ideas? Post em up!
i've made Farmer's implements, boards (not much ingenuity there), boxes (the same), some grip toys (softball, pinch blocks). when I get my own place, I want to build an OLY platform for deads and oly moves.
I had made (through a local welder) a set of L-shaped hooks that go over the back of my power rack so I could have my hands all the way out on the bar when I squat. The standard hooks that came with my bar were right where I wanted to put my hands and when I got to a heavy weight it was too hard to slide my hands out after unracking it. I actually made a mock up out of iron pipes and then took it to the welder and he made them for $45. The only hard part was getting the length of them down correctly. They aren't adjustable (up and down wise) but I have been thinking about how to make them that way. I call them the poor man's monolift. They just hook over the back bar (the one that's parallel to the ground) and I can slide them to be any length apart I want.

The first pic is of the bars "in action" holding my SSB bar.
The second is a close up of one of them actually on the rack.

Pretty simple design. I had them made so that when a bar is on them, the bar is just above my nipple line, so that when I duck under and arch out, the bar comes right out. I had an idea to make them adjustable by using a smaller piece of steel that fits into the bigger piece and each having adjust holes and you could just use a steel pin to hold them in place...ala like adjusting the weight stack on a lat pulldown or adjusting the height of the seat. That way, more than just people your height could use them.
I also took a picture of an ironmind go-really-grip machine to the same welder and he made it for me for $110 vs. $229 (plus s&h) for ironmind's. I just told him what dimensions I wanted and he made it. I think he used at least 3/8" steel all over it and 1/4" for the base. I had him put a piece of 1" diameter steel for the loading pole instead of 2" because it's easier to get olympic plates on there. Here's a pic of that.
