Adrenal Fatigue

New member
A year ago I started getting very tired at certain times of the day, and having trouble completing my workouts. It's been getting worse and worse, and now I can barely lift for 15 minutes, and I am sleeping constantly. I used clen at 160mcg ed before it started. I have no idea if the clen is related, although I'm sure it did contribute. I was also natural at the time. I've ran a couple of light cycles (no test) in the past year, and although they do help me finish my workouts, and I did get good gains, they didn't touch the fatigue. I'm going to the doctor's tommorrow and getting a cortisol test, but I'm sure it's going to come out bad, and the doctor really won't have any way to treat me. The only option is possibly hydrocortisone supplementation, which can shut down natural production completely. The doctor probably won't even prescribe it, as adrenal fatigue isn't entirely recognized in the medical community.

Anybody else have to deal with this? I'm managing to hold on to my muscle mass, but gains are out of the question, and things are only getting worse.

Anybody that hasn't heard of it, there is a good article on it recently written at t-nation:

Dont diagnose yourself. Doctors are trained. Could be mono, depression, or you just might need something to get you going like adderol at low doses.

Not all doctors are "experienced" with adrenal fatigue... I've been to doctors that scoffed when I asked them about adrenal fatigue (no, I don't have it)... you'd have to find a good endo that's patient and knowledgeable, and knows what to look / test for

i'd say take some time off of working out 3-5 times a year. constantly pushing your body near daily every week takes it's toll, schedule layoffs of 5-7 days periodically. Then just go for a walk for 45-60 minutes 2-3 times a week during the layoff.

You can shut down your own hormones from over stressing yourself with intense exercise. Take vit. c and B-complex 4 times a day.

I'd start now by taking 10-14 days off then ease back into training then 5-7 weeks later take a 3-5 day break repeat every so often.

good luck.

All good advice there!

I too would wait and see a Dr. It could be 1 of thousand things. Good Luck Bro!

L-Tyrosine is supposed to help w/ adrenal support.

Please try to find a Dr that doesn't just wanna pump you full of meds aka legal dope. Way too many Drs are Rx happy because they receive $$$ kickbacks and paid vacations as incentives from big Rx companies. Conflict of interest??? Me thinks yes!!!

How old are you, are you taking any other medications? Have you thought about the possability of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Your body is obviously trying to tell you something is wrong, the best thing to do is let the Dr run some tests and take it from there. Hopefully its nothing serious.

Best of luck

The most common treatments for adrenal fatigue are: supplemental hydrocortisone (up to 30mg/day), supplemental DHEA, and REST. You have to take a fairly high amount of hydrocortisone to shut your adrenals down. Blood tests are notoriously bad for checking adrenals because most people tend to feel nervous when getting their blood drawn or the site of the needle causes cortisol to rise. The 4x per day Saliva test is considered best by many.

I recommend the book "Adrenal Fatigue" by James Wilson. It should answer most of your questions and get you on the right track with regards to treatment.

There are some excellent Internet resources for Adrenal Fatigue as well. PM me if you need more info.

I've been having problems for about six months now. I had a whole battery of symptoms, which included even eyelid twitching, but the tiredness and aching was constant. Despite feeling tired, I have trouble staying asleep once early morning cortisol kicks in. The only thing I have found that truly works is rest and avoiding stress. You can include a light cardio programme in there to facilitate recovery, but you have to be careful. I know if I've over done it, because I get hypo and then I will feel exhausted, lose appetite and have sleep problems. One thing I have found that makes it tens time worse (unfortunately) is any anaerobic activity (lifting being the absolute worse). I have found DHEA helps, as does lots of glutamine, b-vits, vit C and magnesium. But rest is really what counts. I'm wondering if people think Dermacrine might be a reasonable source of DHEA? I can't see that testosterone supplementation would hurt, especially if it is a cortisol problem, since then the cortisol:test ratio would be improved...

I'm not too sure about whether clenbuterol could do it, but any stimulant (inc. caffeine) is too much for me right now, so anything that stimulates the CNS must have an effect.

If you listen to the signs now, you've a much better chance of getting over it. Chronic fatigue can be the result of over-doing it at the moment. Of course, I am assuming I know what is wrong and I don't. I am merely going on my experiences, and that is over-training and mental stress.

Unfortunately, I've had no luck with docs. They keep trying to suggest depression (which it isn't; but you can certainly feel morose and fed up when you feel shit - who wouldn't?), and diabetes. If you suggest it is training related, they look at you as though with complete misapprehension.

Good luck bro.

go get a sleep study !!!!! i had the same type of problem tried everything. turned out i have sleep apnea look it up without the right kind of rest ur life will b hell
