Adoption

Anybody know anything about this? Want to adopt a kid (thinking foster). Though gay am well off and well known which I think may help. To be honest have not done a search of the internet just looking for folks who may know.

We adopted my brother when he was three. It was really hard, there was tons of redtape to go through, and they gave us a hard time but that may have been because he's Philipino. If you adopt an American child, it may be SLIGHTLY easier. Good luck. There's a lot of kids out there who need parents.

My Aunt and Unlce adopted from Russia....allot quicker process then.

Want to try going here in the states. Want to explore foster kids and really not sure if it easier or not. If that does not work would explore outside of the US.

The process is so long, cost so much money and you'll have to meet so many dickheads (read govt. employees) that you might reconsider your decision. Being gay will not help, unless you chose not to disclose this.

Girl or boy ? what age are you looking at ? You're better with less than 5yr old....

As others have said the adopotion process here in the states is long, especially if you are looking to adopt a newborn, or infant child. The waiting list, here in the midwest is around 2 years. But just like everything else, availability of money can make this process go a lot quicker.

As far as sexual orientation goes that is something that an adoption agency cannot discrimate against. However, they will dig into you life and past pretty throughly.

I have 2 women friends that just adopted a daughter last year. Finding an adoption agency, here in the small town/ small thinking midwest was close to impossible. They finally had to go out east to find and agency they were able to work with.

Best of luck to you.....

Was thinking a 8-12 year old not sure if boy or girl. If a child is in a foster home why would the state hold this up? Facts are my name is well known and like Roseanne that does help. I also have a very nice home and have many who respect and look up to me. Maybe my thinking is way off but an older child probably has less of a chance of getting a home?

My parents were foster parents for many years, so I remember a lot of what went on with it.

Yes, older children are considered less adoptable. They tend to have more emotional baggage to contend with.

My youngest sister is adopted, and my parents took her in as an infant. They started the adoption process within the first year, as I recall, and it was not completed for several years.

Credit to you for wanting to give a child a home.

:)

Guess I will start with social services. I realize there maybe problems with behavior and the likes but to me facts are kids want respect and to feel loved. I was brought up in a very close family and would be able to love a child as my own regardless of how it came into my home.

2 friends of mine (gay) adopted a little girl. i know if you have money they will most likely approve it.

anyway they take very good care of her and prolly love her more than most american parents love their kids

I think Texas is one of the states that has banned (or at least tried to ban, can't remember) adoption by gay parents. I've read cases where the argument has been used against actual bilogical parents of a child to prevent visitation, unfit parent or some such nonsense.

Rosie has three adopted kids and she is gay too..

Have a dog, cat, and a cockatoo. Texas has not yet passed this law and I don't think it will fly. There are ways around everything and it's unfortunate that in society if you have a name you get more done regardless of laws. Every law has a way around it.
