acupunture... anyone tried it?

AAP said:

How much did you pay for it?

it was free (of one of the best practicioners in the country who im lucky to know), which is why i;ve only had it once

depending on where you go it can cost a lot, most frightening of all, price isnt an indicator of what quality you get as any schmo over here can practise no matter what their knowledge, no degree is needed

and lemme tell you, you can REALLY fuck people up if you dont know what your stimulating. as in kill unborn babies and nasty ass shit like that. if you know what your doing its 100% safe though

check where they learned, my practicioner qualified in the bejing chinese medical school

I wanted to try it for headaches and relief of tension in my neck. I wanted to go somewhere that had a good reputation, but could never find enough information on any of the places.

If I could find a place I would give it a try.

I've had it done in 8th grade and througout high school. Got a neck injury from an accident. Helped relieve the pain and stiff neck/whiplash, but after a few weeks always had to come back. The needles hit the pressure points in the body that controls the nerves of certain muscles and relaxes it... Even had it times where the doctor ran a current for 15 minutes.

Only thing is that insurance only covers maybe first 3 visits and the rest is out of pocket.... Each time was about $50. Eventually the pain in the neck went away, but once in awhile is reaggravated again. usually notice a change when the seasons change, get a little stiff in the neck, then will slowly go away.

As far as the needles, its just a little prick, nothing to bad. But if you look in the mirror then look like that guy pinhead from that horror movie. Some needles are maybe 1/2 in long and othesr maybe 2 inches long...

The docs i went to were trained in China and had to pass an equivalent to practice here in the states...

my dad hurt his back a long time ago working for pepsi and got a acupuncture machine,it was great for making you feel better, but I cant say Ive tried the actual pins

My sister does accupuncture for general health, and she swears by it. I also had a friend who used to successfully to stop smoking after trying and failing on every other program. Personally, I haven't tried it. I just do lost of site shots to alter my chi.

2 inch long needles? Where the hell they stick those?

they are very very fine needles (pins actually), im suprised they penetrate the skin they are so thin

a lot of the pin remains on the outside so the practicioner can still stimulate the meridian after the needle has been inserted (by flicking it)

For anything really... it is promoted as a way to overcome addiction, correct body imbalances and a better alternative to chiropratic.

Maybe if you told us what specific addiction or body imbalance you're trying to fix, it would be easier to give you advice?

Don't be shy now. We're here for you.

Actually.... I was not trying to correct anything... I just read about it being along the lines of hypnosis and was wondering how sticking needles in you cured ANYTHING. I mean, I find it hard to believe it is relaxing when you have dozens on needles sticking in you...especially in the neck area.
