active marines, what's your average day like?

I was 0131 unit diary clerk (ADMIN) In the Air Wing from 1991 - 1996. I got lucky. There is alot of bullshit but i would do it all again. I got to see the world for free. Sigonella Italy, Rota Spain, Iwakuni Japan, Okinawa Japan, Osan Korea, and My favorit Dawin Austraila! I met some really awsome people while I was in and would recommend it to everyone. I think its a part of growing up. I dont think they should have ever done away with the draft. :) Oh yea by the way I basically did what i wanted to when i got into the fleet as long as I got my work done. 2 hours for lunch I could be Late in the morning and not get in trouble and If there was not alot going on I could leave at 2. So I had lots of free time and seemed like everytime you turned around there was a 72 or 96. And Since I was In ADMIN I hooked myself up with extra leave. instead of getting 30 days a year I could get away with bout 40 plus I would hook my friends up in Supply with free leave also and get free gear. :)

Wes,
I think you have a better chance at school in the Airwing, we more or less work 730 to 4 with chow at 1130 - 1300. You have an education bldg on everybase where they will have classes. All the local schools will have a liason there and the teachers will come on base to teach classes during lunch and after work.
I have been going to school for 2 semesters now and have had zero problems, i even get off a little early to make my classes because education is encouraged in my unit. If i was in your shoes now and knowing what i know, I would go in the marines under the aviation option, you can pick a computer field or an aviaonics field too, when you go to your MOS school they will give you a choice of which coast you want, east, west or overseas. PIck west coast and hopefully get stationed at Miramar Ca. (san Diego) and take advantage of all the schools out there. I just took 3 classes and it cost me 90 dollars plus books.

thanks godzilla, that sounds pretty good. i'll probably go airwing. i've got a marine book right here with me, i was wondering what this intelligence is? the code at the bottom is 0F 02. thanks for all your help guys. much apreciated

wes

also, what about overseas. i would like to be in cali, but spain or some place like that wouln't be bad. on the bases overseas, will i get the option to go to school and get credits and shit? plus i can get gear there too.

NO open your ears.
Intel is a real bad choice. The school it long and hard. If you fail then the Corp has the option to put you in any ANY ANY Mos the want. If you fail then you broke your contract but your still obligated to serve so " How do your like your eggs" you'd be a cook or some other shitty job. This is how they get those jobs filled. They scam people into a real job the they fail the school and BAM up the ass goes the Big green dick.
Also intel is a ground pounder type MOS so alot ALOT of deploying. But you'll get promoted real fast and get $$$$ to re-up.

As far as duty stations. If you pick aviation then you'll be in school in NAS pensacola for 6-18 months. After that its Cali, NC, SC or Japan. Very little chance of going any where else. If you class is big and or you have a good monitor then the class will be handed a list of duty stations that need to be filled. The highest grade will go first and down the list it goes.

You'll be able to get school in anywhere you at. If on a base then it will be traditional school if on a op then it will be non-traditional type school. You'll get credit for your military training and military schools ( this is how the faggy airforce does it). I myself have only 6 real credits but have an assload of credits from military training.
And the Corp as of now ( till they run out) is offering 100% tuition assistance.
Another tip/scam is to change your state resident to a state that offers its Vets free school, befoer you enlist. I think Illinois is one. Ga offers free tech school to residents. Its all about working the system.

You dont really get to pick where you want to get stationed at. After you complete bootcamp and go to MCT they will give you a wish list of where to be stationed and you pick like three of them and if there is a need for your MOS at one of the locations you picked you might go there but usually you get screwed and get sent to places like Okinawa like me right now.

sounds good. so you get college credits for both marine military training and traditional schooling? is that correct? that sounds pretty good. you can actually knock a lot of school out before you get out then is that correct?

Yes you get credit for you bootcamp ie PT credit. For leadership school you'll get credits for manager type.
Plus the Corp has an MCI program. Marine Corp Ins thats a self paced program to train Marines. It's real easy you order the book Example "Spelling for Marines" the book arrives with the test. You just fill in the bubbles have a NCO sign it and you mail it in. I think its like 1-2 credits for spelling. On the harder MCI most guys who have been in for a while have the answers so all you got to do is fill in the bubbles.
I've got like 15+ MCI's done.

Do a search on regents school. They work with military to add up all the credits and will either shit you a degree or tell you need just a few more credits in such area.

I would also like to say to listen to ryker77. I served 4 in the Marines and got out..My mistake. I was a truck driver and had a gravy job. I didnt realize it till i got out and joined the army. When i go back im gonna reclass in to something like computers in com. Or a mech in aircraft. Something i can do when i retire. :D
